Sex & Nudity

  • A woman unexpectedly kisses a man on the neck and he looks uncomfortable.
  • Some mild sexual themes. One scene where characters talk about sex (though its very non-sexualized) and throughout the movie there are strange creatures that bear a resemblance to sperm, though they're much larger.
  • One of the movie's underlying themes is a man's fear of relationships and parenting.

Violence & Gore

  • A man looks out a window and sees two men fighting. The fighting is seen from a distance so its hard to tell whats going on
  • Very good, but very uncomfortable right through.
  • No violence really, the movie contains some surreal imagery that can be a bit bloody and distressing but the film is shot in black and white so it's not graphic. All blood comes from a strange fish-like creature, never any humans. The last half hour is only really distressing part.
  • A creature gets ill and is shown wheezing with gruesome pox covering it.
  • In a dream scene, A man's head is knocked off and falls on the floor and a large pool of blood forms.
  • There are multiple times in the film when a dark liquid that may be blood (its hard to tell since the film is in black and white) comes out of random non-human objects like cooked food and trees. It can be strange but it isn't very gorey.

Profanity

  • 1 use of sh*t 3 uses of hell 1 with hole 4 uses of damn 2 uses of shut up.
  • Very mild
  • "Damn" and "Hell" are used a few times. 1 faint "shit"

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • An old lady is seen smoking in one scene.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • It's a very bizarre and surreal experience, as are most of the movies by the director, David Lynch.
  • There are one or two jumpscare-like scenes, where the camera cuts to strange imagery and loud music suddenly starts playing. Can be startling but the shock wears off quickly. There are also a few other scenes where the music suddenly gets very loud and it can be unnerving.
  • The movie has a pervasively dark and eerie atmosphere. Ambient sounds play through pretty much the whole movie that can be eerie at times.
  • There are many surreal and strange scenes and visuals, that can sometimes be very intense. The climax of the film is especially intense.
  • Some characters behave strangely and can be uncomfortable to watch.
  • The whole movie is basically intended to be one long nightmare based off of a man's fears. The movie is very distressing.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • A man and a woman kiss as they sink into a pool of smokey liquid in the middle of a bed. They don't have clothing on but only the upper half of their bodies can be seen and theres no upper nudity because they're facing away from the camera. Sex is implied. Not graphic at all.

Violence & Gore

  • A cooked chicken kicks its legs and seems to bleeds as a man attempts to cut it.
  • A man cuts open a creature. Its organs are exposed and it starts struggling to breathe. He them stabs one of its organs and blood starts coming out of it as well as the creatures mouth. An unknown foam-like substance then starts coming out of the creatures body and the creature screams in pain. There are multiple prolonged shots of this all.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A man MIGHT have killed his child. This is mostly implied and it may have just been a delusion of the character. He also may have committed suicide.
