Doktor Judym

"Doktor Judym" is an adaptation of the novel "Ludzie bezdomni" (Homeless people) by Stefan Zeromski. The novel itself is somewhat reminiscent of the play "An Enemy of the People" by Henrik Ibsen but is much weaker than Ibsen's play. The greatest weakness of the novel is the completely unrealistic character of Dr. Judym, who sacrifices his personal happiness in the name of lofty ideas. I was in high school at the time, and we had to write essays on Zeromski's novel, and I still remember how much my colleagues hated that outdated book. Though I cannot say anything disparaging about the film. A writer respected by me, Andrzej Szczypiorski, was involved, as well as many popular actors at that time. I enjoyed some of the dialogues, characterization, and acting. But even with good filmmakers, you can't make a cinematic masterpiece out of a weak novel. Some of my friends were happy with the fact that they could get passing grades in school without reading the book and just by watching the movie. It took only a little more than an hour and a half. Seriously speaking, I don't think the problem was with the students but with the people who designed the school reading programs.
