William Daniels, who plays John Quincy Adams from age fifty until his death, was probably best known at the time for playing John Adams in the Broadway musical "1776". He reprised his stage role in the 1972 movie based on the play.

The first television appearance of Michael O'Hare, probably best known for playing Commander (later Ambassador) Jeffery Sinclair on the television show Babylon 5 (1994). He also originated what became the Jack Nicholson role in A Few Good Men (1992), when he starred in the original play on Broadway.
