Storyline

On a wild and rain-swept late-November evening, somewhere at an empty stretch of road outside Ohio's merry Denton, the blissfully-affianced, prudish, and boringly innocent young pair of Brad Majors and Janet Weiss find themselves stranded on their way to visit an ex-tutor. Instead, the couple will inadvertently unearth the cross-dressing Dr Frank-N-Furter's spooky lair of inexhaustible oddities, just in time to partake in the out-of-this-world mad scientist's proud unveiling of his latest, delightfully extravagant, and most daring creation--the ultimate male and the perfect sex symbol: the flaxen-haired, Rocky Horror. But, little by little, as the effervescent transgressive force gobbles up whole the unsuspecting visitors of the night, Brad and Janet slowly begin to embrace the potent fascinations of seduction, while an idolised Rocky roams free in the mansion. Who can interrupt man's union with the absolute pleasure? Written by Nick Riganas

Trivia

Although it has never really been confirmed or denied in interviews, Janet's voice throughout the entire film was obviously completely performed by Susan Sarandon in a high-register falsetto, based on comparisons between Susan Sarandon's actual speaking voice and her character's voice in the film. The jury is still out on the voice of Little Nell, who hit such ear-splitting high notes during her 'Time Warp' tap-dance routine that it inadvertently caused some patrons' lives to suffer permanent psychological damage. On a talk show she once said that her mother used to tell her she had "a voice that could open up a soup can." In contrast, Patricia Quinn's Magenta character speaks in a darker, more sinister voice, which is ironic in itself because the song she 'lip-syncs' to: ''Science Fiction Double Feature', was actually sung by Richard O'Brien, who was singing in a high-range falsetto voice. Goofs

In a close up, after Magenta and Columbia pull the curtain off of Rocky's birth-tank, strings are visible, stretched across the top of the tank. They were likely in place to keep the red satin drapery from dipping into the 'embryonic fluid'. See more »

Quotes

Brad: I'm glad we caught you at home. Could we use your phone? We're both in a bit of a hurry. We'll just say where were are and go back to the car. We don't want to be any worry.
Frank: [singing] Well, you got caught with a flat/well, how about that? Well babies, don't you panic. By the light of the night/it'll all seem all right. I'll get you a satanic mechanic! I'm just a sweet transvestite/from Transexual, Transylvania. Why don't you stay for the night? Or maybe a bite? I could show you my favorite ...

... quintessential pre-pop outrageous pop art rock opera freak show comedic hall of weirdos with a pumped-up 70s fragrance and sexual innuendo slide-show of parodic impossible-to-predict sci-fi implausible kind of impossibly over the top horror-meets-fantasy in a grotesquely but quite voluntary way of ridiculous and out-of-worldly piece of contemporary art-hinting quasy-minimalist semi-theatrical interpretation of an intentionally petty pulp-like quite erotic and kaleidoscopic, surprisingly accurate in trend prediction movie.

Quite remarkable.

{Note to editors (this should be removed from the posted comment): I'm aware I'm risking my free account with this post, and I could've easily refrained from posting it at all; I do however feel the "review" above is appropriately styled for The Rocky Horror Picture Show. And yes, I also typically hate such "original" adjective lists. But this is no typical movie. Please just dump my review if you don't think it's a good idea after all. Regardless of your decision, thank you for reading this!}
