Storyline

A novelist (Udo Kier) hires a quiet British country house so that he can work on finishing his latest novel. His agent arranges for a secretary to stay with him, in order to speed up its completion (played by Linda Hayden). However, this turns out to be a big mistake when she reveals that she has actually come to kill him for stealing the manuscript for his last novel from her husband, which drove him to suicide. The housekeeper, Kier's girlfriend (played by 70's sex superstar Fiona Richmond) and 2 local thugs all meet horrific ends as Hayden goes on her killing spree. Written by Sujit R. Varma

Alternate Versions

In 1975 the British Board of Film Censors granted "Expose" an X certificate with cuts for theatrical release with around 3 minutes of heavy edits to all the sex scenes and shots of bloody stabbings. Intervision Home Video issued the film on video a few times, the first being in 1979. Although some tapes of "Expose" were preceded with the BBFC's X certificate, the film was in fact uncut (it is worth noting that Intervision also apparently released it under the alternative title "The House on Straw Hill"). During the video nasty hysteria, "Expose" was listed as number 39 on the Department of Public Prosecutions' list and banned. Odyssey reissued the film on video in 1995 with 51 secs of BBFC cuts to a gunpoint rape scene and a shower murder, and it is this version that was released on DVD in 2002. The 2006 Village Entertainment DVD featured the same cut print. See more »

Sleazy and gruesome thriller.
10 March 2005 | by HumanoidOfFleshSee all my reviews

Writer Paul Martin has scored a massive hit with his first novel and has retreated to a remote cottage in the heart of the English countryside to concentrate on his follow up.He's accompanied by his new secretary Linda Hinstatt,a housekeeper Mrs Aston and occasionally his lover Suzanne. However there is something strange about Linda and soon the bodies begin to pile up."Exposé" along with "Xtro" was classified as a video nasty in the UK.Admittedly it has a few sex/nudity scenes and a little bit of bloody violence, but there is not enough exploitative elements for my liking.Udo Kier is decent as a highly unlikeable writer and Linda Hayden is excellent as his secretary. She openly masturbates few times and has a great lesbian encounter with Fiona Richmond. The violence is quite tame except for the bathroom murder scene which is pretty nasty. The direction is lifeless, the characters are unpleasant and the film is slightly dull.Still I enjoyed it and you should too,if you like exploitation cinema.7 out of 10.
