Storyline

The Pink Panther meets a tiny, white bird that wants to go south but is unable to fly. The Pink Panther's faltering efforts to teach flight to the bird and to give the bird a boost into the air arouse the carnivorous attention of an alley cat, from whom the Pink Panther must defend his little, feathered friend. Thwarting the alley cat but angering a dog, the Pink Panther and the bird fly south on an airplane, with the dog in pursuit. Written by Kevin McCorry <mmccorry@nb.sympatico.ca>

One of the sweetest Pink Panther cartoons
5 July 2014 | by See all my reviews

Bobolink Pink is a lovely Pink Panther cartoon, if a little different to what we usually see of him, and its good points are a great many. Wasn't personally so crazy about the animation here, apart from the characters being well-sketched the colours have been far more vibrant(here it was flat-green-dominant) and it did look rushed. That said, the jazzy music is silky and allows the story to speak for itself and the theme tune, for one so iconic, still doesn't annoy even after hearing it umpteen times. Admittedly there have been funnier gags but they are funny, well-timed and not repetitive or drawn out. The most memorable of which being Pinky comparing the bird's body parts to that of a plane's and the OUT and STILL OUT signs in Pinky's eyelids when he gets knocked out from the fall. There has rarely been a sweeter-constructed story in any Pink Panther cartoon than Bobolink Pink, the entire 6 1/2 minutes are truly heart-warming and not in a way that is cloying either. It can't be seen as dull either. Pinky has been funnier, but is really cool and charming and Bobolink Pink most likely sees him at his most affectionate and that makes him even more likable than he already is. The bird is absolutely adorable and you can't help love it, the relationship between the two is what anchors Bobolink Pink and it is a very strong one. The cat is a good adversary and the dog while with limited screen time doesn't waste itself either. The very end is a weird one, with what Pinky doing not making much sense and very out of the blue, but like the rest of the cartoon is a nice one too. All in all, really sweet and heart-warming and worth watching for the two main characters and how they interact. 8/10 Bethany Cox
