Plot Summary

In Prague, in a house on the banks of the river Vltava, live the last seven Bohemian water sprites. The immortal beings, who keep the souls of the drowned in fragile porcelain vessels, look like ordinary citizens, but they feel more and more threatened in their existence. They themselves are not entirely innocent of this development, for if a water sprite falls in love with a human being or eats blood sausage, his immortality is over. At a congress of Aquarians it becomes clear that the situation in Bohemia is particularly critical. In fact, there are no more offspring there - except for the water girls Jana and Polly. It is therefore necessary to protect them from human influence by all means. When Jana commits the imprudence of falling in love with the young lawyer Jindrich Mrácek, there is only one question left for her family: "How to drown Dr. Mrácek?". To make matters worse, he is also responsible for getting the water spirits out of their damp house, where they feel particularly at home, in order to move into a better and more comfortable flat. That is reason enough to get rid of the culprit as soon as possible.

Edit
Trivia Screenwriter Milos Macourek wrote the part of Matylda, the tyrannical head of the water-sprite family, specifically for Helena Ruzicková. However, the actress was politically undesirable at the time and was not allowed to film. For Míla Myslíková, who eventually played Matylda, it was a rare opportunity to play such a negative role.
