A hard but mediocre cop is assigned to escort a prostitute into custody from Las Vegas to Phoenix, so that she can testify in a mob trial. But a lot of people are literally betting that they won't make it into town alive.
A gun fighting stranger comes to the small settlement of Lago and is hired to bring the townsfolk together in an attempt to hold off three outlaws who are on their way.
Nun Sara (Shirley MacLaine) is on the run in Mexico and is saved from cowboys by Hogan (Clint Eastwood), who is preparing for a future mission to capture a French fort. The pair become good friends, but Sara never does tell him the true reason behind her being outlawed.
Hard-nosed, hard-living Marine Gunnery Sergeant Tom Highway (Clint Eastwood) clashes with his superiors and his ex-wife as he takes command of a spoiled recon platoon with a bad attitude.
San Francisco Police Inspector "Dirty" Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) and his new partner, Earlington "Early" Smith (Felton Perry) have been temporarily reassigned from Homicide to Stakeout Duty. Meanwhile, those of the city's criminals who manage to avoid punishment by the courts are nevertheless being killed by unknown assassins. The motorcycles used by the "death squad" cops through most of the movie are Moto Guzzi Eldorado Police bikes. However, Triumph 500cc T100 Tiger motorcycles were used during the scenes on the aircraft carrier at the end. These were favored by the stunt riders, as they were lighter and easier to handle than the Moto Guzzis. See more »

Crazy Credits
The credits are played over a hand (presumably Harry's) holding a 44 Magnum against a red background. As such, this is the only Dirty Harry movie in which the opening credits are not played over San Francisco scenery. See more »
Alternate Versions
Magnum Force's original English Mono track is quite elusive. It is only on early out-of-print laserdisc and VHS releases. Many of these releases are either cut down or sped up to under 2 hours as well. Some later VHS and Laserdisc releases had "reprocessed" stereo, which were voices and sound effects panned either left or right under a stereo score. As of 2019, every US DVD, Blu-Ray, and digital release of Magnum Force uses the remastered 5.1 surround sound track with new sound effects and other minor (and some major) changes. Some of the other audio tracks of the movie in different languages (Italian, Spanish, French, etc) have the mono mix, but none of the English tracks do. See more »

I actually enjoyed 'Magnum Force' more than the original 'Dirty Harry'. With this the longest of all the Dirty Harry films, it truly has a bit of everything.
This film felt right at home in 2019, despite being made all the way back in 1973. Definitely ahead of its time. You can't help but smile when Clint Eastwood delivers killer lines throughout this film. It seems rare to encounter films so satisfying as this nowadays.

I won't be pulling over for any shady-looking motorcycle cops anytime soon.

Sometimes you just want to spend your evening hanging out with someone cool. So maybe you hang out with the Fonz in 'Happy Days', or just crank some Tom Petty - or perhaps like me tonight, you opt for Clint Eastwood as 'Dirty Harry' Callahan.
I actually enjoyed 'Magnum Force' more than the original 'Dirty Harry'. With this the longest of all the Dirty Harry films, it truly has a bit of everything.
