The first involves a man, Paul Anderson, a family man with a wife and two children. When he leaves to go on a business trip he tries to tell his wife something but can't. His son asks him to bring him something. When he gets on the plane he is met by a woman, Laura, whom he is running away with. She asks if he told his wife but he couldn't. He promises that when he arrives he'll write her a letter. And he does wherein he tells her he wants a divorce. After a few weeks, he realizes that he has to go back to them.So he leaves, devastating Laura. Before he leaves she asks him if he wrote that letter he said he would or was he lying. That's when he grabs his jacket and pulls it out saying he couldn't mail it. He puts it back but it falls out. On his way home he remembers to get the thing his son wants, that's when he realizes he doesn't have the letter. Laura finds it and has it mailed. The next involves a woman named Penelope Parkington who is in love with Derek Childs a pianist who is frustrated at his lack of success. She tells him, he needs a fully financed tour and she's willing to bankroll it. When they go to her family home, he admires it. That's when a woman arrives, Penelope's sister, Geraldine. Later she let's it be known that she has all the money in the family and Penelope gets a small portion. Later she buys out Derek's show and when Penelope sees what she did, it's obvious she's trying to snag him. That's when she tells her Derek only cares about the money. And later Derek marries Geraldine, leaving Penelope devastated. On their honeymoon Geraldine is writing a letter, that's when Derek drags her off to go on a boat. Before going she mails the letter. On the boat he serves her, her favorite cocktail but even when she says she's had enough he keeps making her down more. When she passes out, he pulls out a pocket knife and slits her wrist. Her letter which is for her sister is processed. The final one involves a young woman named, Karen Forrester who comes from proper background, who's seeinga guy named Joe who's more of a blue collar kind of guy. Joe's concerned about her mother. The woman calls Joe to meet with him, that's when she tells him that he's a wanted man. It seems years ago, Joe's a race car driver another buy who's competing with him for a spot challenges him to a race. The guy gets killed and the people he's with says Joe killed him when it was actually an accident. She tells him if he continues to see her daughter she'll turn him in. Joe then goes on the run. Karen informs her mother that she's pregnant with Joe's child. A few months later go who is in Arizona writes a letter. On his way to mail it, he is struck by a car and killed. A woman who knows Joe calls Mrs. Forrester to tell her Joe is dead. After calling her she mails Joe's letter. All three letters are on their way when the plane carrying them crashes and the letters are not retrieved till a year later. That's when the mailman brings them. His first stop is the Andersons. When Paul learns that it was the letter he wrote to his wife a year ago, he asks the mailman not give it to his wife cause it will only hurt her. His wife comes out and takes receipt of the letter but instead of reading it, she burns it much to her husband's relief. He then goes to deliver the letter to Penelope. He arrives at her family's estate, where Derek is planning his next tour. The butler then tells the mailman where Penelope now lives. She gets the letter and reads it. She then goes to Derek and shows him the letter wherein Geraldine says that she is very happy. Which makes her wonder if that's the kind of woman who would commit suicide. Deerk takes the letter and rips it up.She tells him it's just a copy. The real letter is with her lawyer along with her own stating that if anything should happen to her, that Derek is the prime suspect. That's when she tells him, that his music career is over and that he now belongs to her. And he then delivers the letter to Mrs. Forrester. Karen is not exactly bonding with her baby cause she's preoccupied about if whether or not Joe really loved her. When Mrs. Forrester reads the letter, she then gives it to Karen, in it he talks about how she told him to leave Karen and Mrs. Forrester is worried that Karen will hate her for what she did but Karen also sees that Joe said he was going to go and try and prove his innocence cause he loves Karen. Karen then takes her baby and thanks her mom for giving her the letter.
