- A man is beheaded suddenly while he is talking mid sentence, and his severed head speaks one more word finishing the sentence after his head rolls to the ground. Quite unsettling.
- Some of the animal abuse, at least against the fish, seems to be real.
- Aguirre, the main character, is on the brink of madness throughout the entire film. His appearance on screen brings intensity, but ties the whole thing together.
