Storyline

The 70s run. Adela is a 43-year-old spinster who lives in a small town together with Isabelita, her maid, and who subsists thanks to the particular sewing works she performs. Adela, despite having an ungrateful physique, is a woman with a great personality who has captivated Santiago, the director of a bank, who sees how she rejects all his proposals without arguing any reason. One day, and on the advice of the pastor, Adela makes a visit to the doctor and discovers something that perhaps he always suspected, or at least always wanted: she is actually a man. This discovery will change your entire life completely, to the point of reducing it to something that should never have happened. Moreover, and as if that were not enough, he will now have to face an intolerant society and a world that does not contemplate people like him. Will Adela - now Juan - achieve the solution of her problems? Written by Miguel Ángel Díaz González

"Mi querida señorita" in my mind.
1 December 2007 | by davidtraversa-1See all my reviews

I saw "Mi querida señorita" many years ago in Chicago, in a Spanish Films Festival. I was overwhelmed by this jewel of a film. At the time it was quite daring and José Luis López Vázquez an incredible actor. Although he was (and is, I hope) a very popular actor in Spain, I couldn't believe the amount of work he has done: 255 films!! I wish I could have a copy of this film, since after so many years after watching it, I keep it in my mind as one of my favorite movies of all times. It also opened the Spanish cinema doors to me, since at that time it was quite difficult in the USA to be able to see foreign movies. Since then I consider the Spanish film-making among the best and finest in the world.
