Trivia

During a Q&A at the TCM Film Fest in 2015, Shirley MacLaine had this to say about Clint Eastwood, "Quite brilliant, and funny... because he's so laconic and doesn't know it. I adore him... I remember when we were doing Two Mules for Sister Sara, his horse was acting up. This is when I knew he's a true Republican. He got off the horse, looked at the horse, and socked him." See more »

Goofs

Not only the Colt 1873, but also rest of the small firearms in the movie - rifles as Bertie 1907, Winchester 1873 and Gras 1974 and a revolver Colt New Service - are anachronistic to the story plot, taking place in the 1860s (the French intervention in Mexico). See more »

Alternate Versions

To receive an 'A' (PG) certificate the UK cinema version was cut by the BBFC to remove shots of burning men and a soldier's face being slashed during the climax. The 1987 CIC video was 15-rated but featured a shorter print which missed around 8 minutes of footage. The 1993 widescreen video and all later DVD releases include the full uncut version. See more »

What a good movie!
27 September 1998 | by fleecySee all my reviews

It was a different kind of western with a surprising ending. Clint Eastwood and Shirley McClaine had great chemistry and gave great performances; especially Clint Eastwood. It was fun to watch with a good story line. Very entertaining!
