Trivia

Besides being the wrong amount ($40,000 too high), the money cited by Justin as payments by the three GIs to Carla has no factual basis. Phil actually paid Carla $27,600 over 20 years - not $47,000. Walter actually paid her $20,400, not $41,000. And, Justin actually paid her $33,600. Their cumulative payments ($340 per month for 20 years) came to $81,600 - not $197,000. The actual inflationary value of the $81,600 in 1964 was $96,833. That assumes she kept all the money until 1964 and didn't spend any of it before then. The men would not have made 6% interest in savings. That is a hypothetical rate of return they might have made with wise investments. But, whether or not they would have made such investments, Carla Campbell only received $81,600 total from them over 20 years - at $4,080 per year. See more »

Goofs

Justin Young says that the cumulative total payments the three men paid to Carla, "over 20 years, compounded at six percent interest, would come to $197,000." That figure is $40,000 too high. The correct amount would be just over $157,000. See more »

Quotes

Rosa: The name Campbell, where did you get that?
Carla Campbell: From the soup.
Rosa: You named yourself a soup?
Carla Campbell: I had to. The only other American name I knew was Coca Cola. I couldn't call myself Mrs. Coca Cola.

smart, hilarious, precise, good comedy for dark days. seductive and fresh. common recipes but with special spices. and, first, scene for extraordinary Gina Lollobrigida who does a nice role in Italian school manner.the humor - in each kind of form. the idea - far to be original today but the extraordinary use of it in this case makes all new. the acting - great. more important, it is a drawing of Italian society. not profound, not serious but interesting.and precise.it is difficult to write a review because the air of joy from this work is an experience. it is a window to a world in which each thing was more easy and natural. a form of innocence. not disappointing. only full of joy. and hopeful.
