Storyline
Semyon Gorbunkov goes on a cruise. In Istanbul, he slips and breaks his arm. What he didn't know is that this was a signal for a gang of smugglers (a real smuggler - Gena - was also on board the same ship). So his arm gets bandaged with gold and diamonds. After he returns home, the gangsters are trying to get their stuff back, while the police try to catch them using Gorbunkov and his arm. —Boris Shafir <shafir@hsi.com>

- TriviaWhen Leonid Gaidai presented the film to the censors, he added a nuclear explosion footage into the epilogue, and refused to remove it, and only agreed after an extensive argument. This allowed him to sneak in some controversial (by the USSR's measures) material such as striptease, drunken debauchery and references to prostitution.
- GoofsThe first part of the film takes place in what is supposed to be Turkey. But the streets are filled with signs in Arabic script, which Turkish does not use.
- Quotes
Mystery man: Hey, buddy, do you have a cigarette?
[Gorbunkov stutters]
Mystery man: What are you, deaf-mute?
Semyon Gorbunkov: [immediately, very clearly and distinctly] Yes!
- Crazy creditsThe summary of the first part of the movie, written in an extremely small and blurry font, races through the screen in a matter of two seconds.

Full of Brilliant catch phrases
It's simply the best comedy ever made by anyone. Even the best Russian - or as some say - Soviet comedies don't stand even close to it. Well, maybe 12 Stools or The Golden Calf... There are dozens of catch phrases and extremely hilarious moments - you can talk to a any friend who saw it all night and laugh about it all anew. You can watch this comedy on and on and on. Every time it gets even more funny! ... " - Hey, stupid, what for did you shave the mustaches? - Off whom?" ... " - There, in London, the dog is the man's best friend... - Well, maybe a dog is a man's best friend over there, but here the Upravdom [a Soviet one certain household's members union] is a man's best friend." And so on... Brilliant!
