Sydney Sweeney actually couldn’t be happier that “Euphoria” Season 3 — whose filming was recently delayed at HBO — will involve a time jump from Season 2.
The Emmy-nominated actress revealed in a Who What Wear cover story that the extra time between Seasons 2 and 3 of the teen drama will give the actress “more room for growth” as a person, which no doubt will be reflected in her character Cassie’s arc for the upcoming “wild” installment.
“I actually like it because there’s so much room for growth for both me as a person and also Cassie as a character,” Sweeney said.
She teased of the upcoming storyline, “It’s going to be very, very wild.”
A recent statement from HBO revealed that “Euphoria” showrunner Sam Levinson is still at work on Season 3 scripts. A network representative said that HBO and Levinson “remain committed to making an exceptional third season” and that “in the interim,...

Joshua Logan’s Paint Your Wagon can be viewed as one of the last gasps of a dwindling Hollywood studio system, as well as a precursor to the New Hollywood. The film, with its expansive anamorphic vistas of the American Northwest, bears some superficial similarities to Michael Cimino’s Heaven’s Gate, which is often historicized as the end of the New Hollywood, given how it bankrupted United Artists. But in contrast to the profound sadness with which Cimino regards America’s history of violence, Logan’s musical romp takes a lighthearted approach to the process of resettlement, and it’s propelled by the contrasting personalities of Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood as bickering and tussling gold prospectors.
Paint Your Wagon straddles multiple genres at once, suggesting something like a western-inflected musical riff on Ernst Lubitsch’s Design for Living. The crux of the story concerns Ben Rumson (Marvin), a ne...

Jean-Claude Forest created the heroine Barbarella in the pages of V Magazine back in 1962, and it only took six years for director Roger Vardim (and a small army of screenwriters) to bring the character to the screen in the film Barbarella (watch it Here), where she was played by Jane Fonda. A sequel called Barbarella Goes Down never made it into production, but talks of a Barbarella reboot have been bouncing around for decades, with Rose McGowan, Halle Berry, and Kate Beckinsale being among those who have been considered for the title role. Robert Rodriguez was going to direct the new film at one point, Robert Luketic at another. Neal Purvis and Robert Wade wrote a screenplay, and were later attached to a TV adaptation that had Nicolas Winding Refn at the helm. None of these ever got the greenlight. About a year and a half ago, it was announced...

The Barbarella reboot is still in the works, Sydney Sweeney has confirmed.
In 2022, it was announced by Sony Pictures that Madame Web star Sydney Sweeney would be starring in and executive producing a new Barbarella movie. No major updates have since been officially announced, though there have been rumors that Edgar Wright could be directing. In a new interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Sweeney was asked if the Barbarella reboot is still happening, to which she confirmed, "It is." She then shared her love for the original feature film, appreciating how "it's so campy," before going on to explain why she's so eager to take on playing the titular character.

Sydney Sweeney has no regrets about Madame Web and sees the film as a catalyst for other projects.
In an interview with GQ U.K. published Monday, the actress reflected on how the franchise opened the door for career opportunities such as Anyone But You and Barbarella.
“To me that film was a building block. It’s what allowed me to build a relationship with Sony. Without doing Madame Web I wouldn’t have a relationship with the decision-makers over there,” she said. “Everything in my career I do not just for that story, but strategic business decisions. Sydney Sweeney said in a recent interview with GQ UK that starring in Sony’s “Madame Web” was a “strategic business decision” that more or less paid off despite the film being one of the year’s most infamous box office flops. Pulp heroes shaped modern superheroes, with Flash Gordon, Doc Savage, and The Shadow leading the way through thrilling adventures. Filmmaking over the past 100 years has seen mixed results with pulp hero adaptations, from box office flops to hidden gems waiting to be discovered. From Tarzan to Zorro to Buck Rogers, iconic pulp heroes like Conan the Barbarian and The Rocketeer brought thrilling adventures to the big screen.
While the pulp heroes of the past may not be as recognizable as the most popular superheroes of today, they still have plenty of great movie adaptations that viewers should be sure to check out. From masked vigilantes to over-the-top musclemen, pulp heroes acted as the forerunners to modern-day superheroes and originated through inexpensive fiction magazines that provided readers with disposable adventures and peaked in popularity between the 1920s and 1940s. Zendaya’s seemingly futuristic body armor actually has a long history steeped in cinema and pop culture.
At the root of it all is the likeness to the female robot, often called “Maria,” in Fritz Lang’s masterwork of futurism, Metropolis. Maria has inspired countless cultural references including the images of Lang’s robot used in David Bowie and Queen’s video for “Under Pressure”; a profound influence on Ralph McQuarrie’s designs for C-3Po in Star Wars; inspiring looks worn by Beyoncé, Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Lady Gaga; providing the concept of Janelle Monáe’s Metropolis: The Chase Suite album; and serving as a background for Whitney Houston’s music video for “Queen of the Night” as well references in the The Bodyguard.

Sydney Sweeney stars in Immaculate, an upcoming horror flick from Neon that riffs on the concept of the immaculate conception.
Last year saw an interesting debate bubble up around the lack of new movie stars, with a wide-ranging survey discovering that most movie punters would only consider shelling out for a cinema ticket if one of the ageing stars who emerged in the 1990s such as Julia Roberts or Brad Pitt were headlining.
‘Where are the stars of tomorrow?’ was the oft-heard lament echoed by lots of think-pieces and whilst it continues to be a good question, there might be an equally good answer in the form of Sydney Sweeney.
Anyone But You, the romantic comedy headlined by Sweeney and Top Gun: Maverick's Glen Powell has been quietly guzzling cash at the box office, enjoying a run that looks to have been extended due to the film’s popularity.

Sydney Sweeney is starring as a twisted Virgin Mary in horror film “Immaculate.”
The “Euphoria” actress leads the Michael Mohan-directed feature, re-teaming with her “The Voyeurs” director. The official synopsis reads: “Cecilia (Sweeney), an American nun of devout faith, embarks on a new journey in a remote convent in the picturesque Italian countryside. Her warm welcome quickly devolves into a nightmare as it becomes clear her new home harbors a sinister secret and unspeakable horrors.”
The trailer shows Cecilia realizing she is pregnant despite her nunhood while fearing the sinsiter potential of the baby growing inside her.
Andrew Lobel penned the script for the Neon film, while Sweeney produces with Jonathan Davino under her Fifty-Fifty Films production banner.
“Immaculate” marks many reunions with Sweeney’s past collaborators: Sweeney and director Mohan first worked together on the Netflix high school comedy series “Everything Sucks!,” while producer David Bernad was behind “The White Lotus.

Some actors, like Jane Fonda and Debra Winger, retire from acting but later make a comeback, sometimes after a break of 10 to 20 years. Retirement from show business is not always permanent, as many actors return to the industry for various reasons, including the desire to work with great directors or pursue new opportunities. Notable actors like Rick Moranis, Daniel Day-Lewis, Joe Pesci, Ke Huy Quan, Shelley Duvall, and Cameron Diaz have all retired from acting at some point but have since returned to the screen.
Despite "retiring" at one point in their careers, some actors returned to acting eventually. While retirement is part of any professional journey, some actors work well into their old age. However, others retire much earlier than that. Plenty of actors over the years have announced their retirement from show business and have yet to return, from Gene Hackman to Jack Nicholson, and Amanda Bynes to Portia de Rossi.

There's a billion bits of "Star Wars" trivia out there, but one of my favorites is actually from before a single foot of film ran through the camera. You have to remember that, though "Star Wars" is a multi-billion dollar IP now, the original film barely got made. George Lucas had success with "American Graffiti," but this was a script that nobody in Hollywood understood, even Alan Ladd Jr., the Fox exec who gave the film a greenlight.
Lucas's world-building impressed most people, but they just didn't understand the technobabble jargon in a genre that was predominantly either super serious like "2001" or extra campy like "Barbarella." "Star Wars" existed somewhere between the two and that threw everybody, from studio execs to the actors auditioning for the movie, for a loop.
This was also an era pre-internet, so when Hamill went in to his first meeting for the role of Luke Skywalker...

Scripted by Andrew Lobel, Immaculate sees Sweeney taking on the role of Cecilia, a woman of devout faith who is offered a fulfilling new role at an illustrious Italian convent. Her warm welcome to the picture-perfect Italian countryside is soon interrupted as it becomes clearer to Cecilia that her new home harbors some dark and horrifying secrets.

Nineteen sixty-eight has to be considered the apex of psychedelic sexploitation romps, with the release of Candy, adapted from Mason Hoffenberg and Terry Southern’s satirical reworking of Voltaire’s Candide, and Roger Vadim’s Barbarella, based on Jean-Claude Forest’s comic, and partially scripted by Southern (alongside an armada of other credited writers). Both employ a rambling, shaggy-dog structure as an excuse to flagrantly foreground softcore sexual hijinks tinged with a pungent whiff of social commentary, albeit the latter aspect may be easier to discern in Candy’s perverse daisy chain of events.
Southern’s contributions to the Dino De Laurentiis-produced Barbarella can be detected in some of its wittier lines (“A good many dramatic situations begin with screaming!”) and sly pokes at the persistence of class-consciousness. Aside from Southern, the two films are linked by the presence of Anita Pallenberg, style icon and muse of the Rolling...

Next month finally sees a theatrical release for anticipated romantic comedy Anyone But You. Get a look here ahead of its 29th December debut.
If there’s one romantic comedy hurtling down the pipeline that seems to be making a lot of noise, it’s Anyone But You, the Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney-headlined film due to hit cinemas next month.
Powell has been surging since he featured in last year’s Top Gun: Maverick, most recently earning lots of plaudits for Richard Linklater’s Hit Man, which will stream on Netflix at some point in the future.
Sweeney meanwhile, has also been making waves in the same time period, featuring in the hit TV show Euphoria as well as being named as the title role in Edgar Wright’s proposed Barbarella remake, not to mention featuring in a what could be a very expansive role in the upcoming Sony Spider-Man spin-off,...

This article contains some minor The Marvels spoilers.
The heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have visited some fantastic planets. The deadly and mystical Vormir, the rat-tag assemblage on Nowhere, and Ego the Living Planet have all offered exciting new storytelling possibilities. But none capture the imagination like Aladana, visited by Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) in The Marvels. After Carol dons a striking headpiece and warns her compatriots about the planet’s oddness, a representative arrives to greet the heroes… in song.
What follows is a brief musical number, borrowing equally from Bollywood blockbusters and technicolor musicals of a bygone age. Director Nia DaCosta floats her camera around and above the dancers, taking in the luscious colors popping against the bleached white backgrounds. At the climax of the scene, Carol’s costume transforms into an elegant dress befitting a Disney princess,...

While fans will have to wait until 2025 or later for the beloved HBO series to return, the “Euphoria” ensemble cast members are wasting no time riding out their respective rising stardoms.
“Euphoria” creator Sam Levinson teased that the upcoming third season will be a “film noir” following Rue (Zendaya) as she “explores what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.” Well, the individuals behind “Euphoria” have certainly taken over the world outside of the series in the meantime.
Breakout actor Sydney Sweeney has continued to deepen her relationship with HBO and parent company Warner Bros., starring in film “Reality” about Nsa agent Reality Winner who was convicted for releasing classified documents. A “Barbarella” remake and a reunion with “Voyeurs” helmer Michael Mohan are also on the horizon, with Sweeney producing through her Fifty-Fifty films banner. It’s often said of the 1960s that “if you can remember it, you weren’t really there”. Here, Anita Pallenberg, a woman who absolutely personifies the swaggering, love-drenched freedom of a certain facet of sixties art and culture, proves that to be, once and for all, quite astonishing bollocks. Before her death in 2017, Pallenberg – an era-defining model and actress who, as the ex-girlfriend of Keith Richards and Brian Jones (and briefly the lover of Mick Jagger) is often described as the unofficial “sixth Rolling Stone” – wrote her memoirs. They form the basis of this remarkable intimate documentary, navigating the shifting fortunes of her life with admirable authenticity.
Those memoirs are narrated here by “an actress” with some husky-voiced depth that will feel fairly familiar. It should —it’s Scarlet Johansson, though the film makes a point of not distracting us with that fact until the credits roll. She does...

Sydney Sweeney idolizes The Rolling Stones in music video “Angry.”
The “Euphoria” star is shown dancing and singing while riding on the back of a red convertible, much like a scene out of her “Euphoria” creator Sam Levinson’s short-lived “The Idol.” Rolling Stones members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood are billboards come to life while a leather-clad Sweeney gyrates in a passing car.
“Angry” is the first single off The Rolling Stones’ brand new studio album “Hackney Diamonds,” available October 20. This is the Stones’ first album since 2016’s “Blue & Lonesome” and the first since longtime drummer Charlie Watts’ death in 2021; it’s been 18 years since the iconic band released original music. Two tracks from “Hackney Diamonds” will feature Watts’ drumming, with the rest of the album featuring touring drummer Steve Jordan.

Sydney Sweeney, known for her high-profile projects, will star in and produce the reimagined Barbarella story, despite Jane Fonda's apprehension. Sweeney respects the original film's messages of female empowerment and plans to embrace the character's fun and vivacious spirit. With Sweeney's commitment and clear vision, Barbarella is set to continue as a symbol of female empowerment and an icon of science fiction.
It's a new era for Barbarella. The intergalactic heroine, who first entered our consciousness via Jean-Claude Forest's serialized comic in 1962, is set to return to the silver screen, and stepping into the role made famous by Jane Fonda is none other than Sydney Sweeney.
Late last year, the news broke that Sydney Sweeney, known for her strong portfolio of high-profile projects, would not only star in but also produce the reimagined Barbarella story. The news was met with both anticipation and concern from enthusiasts of the franchise,...

Sidney Sweeney discussed Julia Carpenter's potential future in the MCU after Madame Web.
The actor played coy about her Spider-Woman character's potential future in the MCU during an interview with Variety. Upon landing the role, Sweeney recalled her immediate excitement, saying, "I was freaking out, of course. I went straight to the comic store, and I bought every comic that mentioned my character." She also hinted at the uniqueness of the film, stating, "I think it’s different from what people expect a superhero movie to be. Quote that! That’s a quote, because the tabloids will pick up everything else we talk about."

When asked about the possibility of stand-alone Spider-Woman movies, Sweeney's response was tantalizingly elusive. She gave a "coy yes." Sweeney's enthusiasm extends beyond acting; she also discussed her production company, Fifty-Fifty Films, reflecting her belief in fairness.

Sydney Sweeney is adding the title of screenwriter to her multi-hyphenate talents.
The “Euphoria” and “White Lotus” Emmy nominee revealed in a Variety cover story that she wrote a screenplay during the Covid lockdown. However, the script most likely will not be brought to the big screen anytime soon.
“I think it was a little too complicated for people to wrap their heads around,” Sweeney said. “It was cool and it was beautiful and it was bittersweet, but I look at it now as just a really cool exercise that I had for myself.”
The actress, who is making her producing debut with upcoming rom-com “Anyone but You” under her Fifty-Fifty production banner, added that she finds “power in my femininity” and defying expectations based on her appearance in Hollywood.

It’s a hot Thursday afternoon in Los Angeles, but Sydney Sweeney, balancing on a block of ice, is keeping her cool.
Sweeney — the 25-year-old star of “Euphoria,” “Reality” and now this photo shoot — is clad in just a hot-pink swimsuit and matching heels as she kneels on the frozen surface; despite the chill, she betrays not a hint of discomfort. Her entourage, which today includes her father, Steven, huddle around monitors to observe a master at work.
Suddenly, the performance switches off, and she leaps up shrieking, letting out giggles and shivering. She recalls the moment two weeks later at a tea shop in New York City (and three weeks before SAG-AFTRA goes on strike). “I love when they let us play,” she says.
Luckily, as one of the most prodigious actors of her generation, that’s Sweeney’s job. On set with us, she is a ’90s-throwback magazine queen,...

She's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs. She can outrun Imperial starships. She's fast. She is the Millennium Falcon, and while she may not look like much, she's got it where it counts. As for why she looks like, per Luke Skywalker, "a piece of junk," that's a surprisingly convoluted story born out of Joe Johnston's literal kitchen sink.
It's also a reminder of why George Lucas' "Star Wars" became a zeitgeist-capturing blockbuster the likes of which hadn't been seen since "Gone with the Wind." Lucas combined his love of Westerns, Akira Kurosawa's samurai films, and hot rods to make a sci-fi fantasy with a lived-in aesthetic. He wasn't trying to blow audiences away with sleek, futuristic design work. He wanted his space opera to feel like a world ravaged by conflict. This meant his spacecraft had to look beaten to crap.

One of the biggest moments in the film industry every year is that in which the coveted Palme d’Or is handed over to the director of the Canne Film Festival’s best film. As it happens, sometimes it’s not handed but rather chucked, as this is exactly what happened at the 76th Cannes Film Festival when Jane Fonda presented the award to director Justine Triet for her film Anatomy of a Fall.
In a video that would go viral if TikTok users knew what the Cannes Film Festival was, Jane Fonda is seen trying to get the attention of Justine Triet, who left the Palme d’Or scroll at the podium. Despite her efforts, Triet is either too wrapped up in the moment or the crowd is too loud to notice, and so Fonda tosses it directly at her head. While the crowd does seem to laugh, one...

Sydney Sweeney is transforming for her newest role. On April 19, HBO released the trailer for its new film "Reality," in which Sweeney stars as real-life whistleblower Reality Winner, an Nsa translator who leaked information to The Intercept about Russia's role in influencing the 2016 presidential election. Winner was eventually sentenced to five years and three months in prison, which prosecutors said was the longest sentence ever from a federal court for leaking government information to the media. In the trailer, Sweeney is stripped down from her typical glamorous looks and glares at the camera during questioning.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about preparing for her movie role, Sweeney said she wasn't quite familiar with Winner's story. But when she read the script, "I was completely blown away because I've never read something that flowed that way, directly taken from a transcript," she said.

Sydney Sweeney is being stalked by the FBI.
The “Euphoria” Emmy nominee leads HBO film “Reality,” based on writer-director Tina Satter’s 2019 play “Is This A Room.”
On June 3, 2017, 25-year-old former American intelligence specialist Reality Winner (Sweeney) is confronted by FBI agents, played by Josh Hamilton and Marchánt Davis, arriving at her home to question her suspected role in the mishandling of classified information. Reality Winner is an ex-Air Force member and Nsa translator who later received the harshest sentence, five years and three months in prison, for the unauthorized release of government information to the media leading to FBI director James Comey being fired for the investigation into how Russian interference affected the 2016 election.
Based on true events, the film’s dialogue, as with the acclaimed Off-Broadway play, comes directly from the transcript of their tense and transfixing conversation.

A new reissue will provide a deeper look at the late Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland’s first solo album, 12 Bar Blues, with a handful of previously unreleased demos, remixes, and alternate versions of songs. The first bonus track to be released is a demo of “Barbarella,” the album’s lead single, which features a loose, acoustic-leaning arrangement and a few scratch lyrics (the Lost in Space line at the end comes out different.) The song, which shows Weiland’s obsession with Bowie-like sounds circa Hunky Dory,...

Jane Fonda went down memory lane on The Drew Barrymore Show remembering films from her acting career. When an image of the 2005 rom-com Monster-in-Law came up, Fonda recalled the infamous slap scene opposite Jennifer Lopez that left her with an injury.
“The thing that comes to mind right away is we have a slapping scene – I slap her, she slaps me…,” Fonda recalled. “Well Jennifer, as per Jennifer, she had this enormous diamond ring and so when she slapped me one of the times it cut open across my eye – my eyebrow.”
Fonda continued, “And she’s never apologized.”
Monster-in-Law was directed by Robert Luketic and written by Anya Kochoff about aspiring fashion designer Charlie (Lopez) who has to face her mother-in-law played by Fonda who will do anything to ruin her relationship with her son. The film marked Fonda’s return to the movies after a 15-year absence since...

Jane Fonda walked down memory lane while appearing on “The Drew Barrymore Show”, and one particular film seemingly still had her feeling a type of way.
While discussing with Drew Barrymore some of her — and guest Lily Tomlin‘s — past work, Fonda got a glance of the image on the screen, which showed Fonda and Jennifer Lopez in their iconic roles for the 2005 rom-com, “Monster-in-Law”. After the crowd roared in approval, Fonda shared the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about that film.

Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney are gearing up to play a mother-daughter duo in “Echo Valley,” an Apple Studios feature from “Mare of Easttown” creator Brad Ingelsby.
Like the acclaimed HBO series, “Echo Valley” is rooted in southeastern Pennsylvania, where a grieving woman named Kate Garrett (Moore) lives in isolation on a 22-acre farm. Her days of boarding and training horses at Echo Valley Farm are interrupted when her wayward daughter Claire (Sweeney) shows up one night, covered in someone else’s blood. As the synopsis puts it, that sets into motion “a heart-pounding thriller about just how far a mother will go to save her child.”
BAFTA-winning director Michael Pearce will helm from Ingelsby’s script, developed with Michael Pruss. Ridley Scott will produce through his banner Scott Free, along with Pruss and Ingelsby. Kevin Walsh will produce for The Walsh Company under his multiyear deal with Apple TV...
