Commando Cody, a scientist-adventurer who has developed a flying-rocket jet pack which enables him to soar through the skies, encounters aliens from the moon intent on taking over Earth in this feature-length reediting of the serial 'Radar Men From the Moon (1952)'. Written by Jim Beaver <jumblejim@prodigy.net>
Well I kind of saw the serial they hacked up to make this little movie out of. Anyone who's a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000 will remember Commando Cody and the Radar Men From the Moon shorts. Sadly they never really finished the series off. For the uninitiated Commando Cody, the poor man's Rocketeer, defends Earth from the evil Moon Men who's Supreme Ruler has an affinity for wearing bathrobes and looks like the poor man's Alfred Hitchcock if indeed Hitchcock acted. I guess the most heartening thing is that we find out even alien invaders need a healthy cash flow to implement their plans to take over the world. And of course they hire the most incompetent gangsters around to do their dirty work for them. I guess they couldn't spare enough cash to hire someone like Al Capone. And did I forget to mention the main characters love crashing their cars alot? Whenever I'm watching a movie and I see a car fly off a cliff and crash I immediately think, "Wow! That driver must have gone to the Commando Cody School of driving." I think the only thing I have to recommend for this movie is that if you've watched the serials on MST3K you'll find out what happened in the end. As a matter of fact, wouldn't it be neat of they did an all star MST3K special and this movie was the one the Mads were to show Joel, Mike and the Bots (Tom Servo and Crow) ? I'm sure for at least three of them it would bring back some very bad memories.
