One of the earliest examples of a 'shock-talk' host, Alan Burke chose not to invite the kind of guests featured on most other talk shows, instead going with the fringes of the political, religious and social spectrum. Re Alan Burke:

The negative comments apply, not to Mr. Burke, but rather Bob Grant. Burke, though initially appearing somewhat put-offish, proved to be one of the most sympathetic and broadminded commentators in the media of his time. His seeming acridity was reserved for mainly the noxious and fraudulent participants he encountered.
