Voldar and Kimar's rivalry could be a subtle reference to Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter of Mars series. Voldar has green skin and Kimar has red tinted skin. The green and red martians were fierce rivals stricken by interciene warfare. This is speculation... it is not verified.
