Storyline

Events in this daytime drama are centred in Port Charles, a community on the coast in upper New York. Ongoing plots are centred around the people who work in General Hospital, people who work in the business community (most notably for the Quartermaines' company ELQ), and some sort of international intrigue involving former agents of the WSB (World Security Bureau). Big plots of the past include Luke and Laura's wedding and Mikkos Cassadine's evil weather machine. Written by Ed Sutton <esutton@mindspring.com>

Trivia

When One Life to Live was canceled in 2012, the rights were licensed to the production company Prospect Park to continue the series as an on-line show, but financial and legal issues forced them to suspend their plans to continue the series. Former One Life to Live executive producer Frank Valentini and head writer Ron Carlivati took over the respective duties on General Hospital. Roger Howarth carried over his One Life role of Todd Manning, Kristen Alderson carried over her role of Star Manning, and Micheal Easton his role of John McBain, Easton also reprized his role from the GH spin-off Port Charles of Caleb Morley/Stephen Clay. When Prospect Park resolved their issues and revived One Life to Live a year later this led to a legal dispute over the use of the characters. The two sides were unable to come to an arrangement and the rights to the characters were lost while the actors remained under contract with the ABC/General Hospital. New roles were then created for them; Micheal Easton became Dr.Silas Clay, the brother of Stephen/Caleb, Kristen Alderson, became Lauren "Kiki" Jerome, Dr.Clays' daughter and Roger Howarth took over the role of Robert James"Franco" Frank Quartermain, previously played by James Franco. Quotes

Emily Quartermaine: I've been searching my heart trying to find some sympathy for you, a little compassion. And I imagine that you weren't always like this. It must have been Connor's loss that took your sanity. I try to tell my myself that you aren't responsible for you actions and find excuses for poor, pathetic Mary. And then I realize that that's the exact mistake I have made all along - giving you the benefit of the doubt, looking for the deeper motive. My pity for you gave you the time you needed to keep ...

Great soap opera
22 May 2002 | by Kellyann-1See all my reviews

General Hospital is a long running soap opera that had wonderful leadership with Gloria Monty and Wendy Riche and amazing writers like Claire Labine. Also great performances by John Beradino,Rachel Ames, Tony Geary,Genie Francis,Tristan Rogers,Finola Hughes,Kimberly Mccullough,Vanessa Marcil,Alicia Leigh Willis and Billy Warlock.

Tristan Rogers and Finola Hughes were incredible as Robert and Anna in the 80s and 90s where GH was filled with action, adventure and romance.

The highlight of the 1990s included storylines of the family. BJ Jones's death, Monica Quartermaine fighting breast cancer, Stone and Robin's love story and their AIDS storyline. Plus the amazing chemistry and connection that made Sonny&Brenda soulmates.

GH hit a rough patch in 2000-2001 with many backstage changes but it is improving in 2002. One of the most promising current storylines is the AJ Quartermaine and Courtney Matthews relationship. Billy Warlock and Alicia Leigh Willis have phenomenal chemistry that makes watching in 2002 a must.
