Unfortunately, Simon Cowell wasn't around at the time to make anything decent of this "Idol"

Luckily, this wasn't Albert Lewin's first film, else we might never have heard of him again... It's odd that, given the huge richness of Meso-American history and culture that Hollywood has rather ignored this as a source of mythological mystery adventures so I ws quite looking forward to this. James Robertson Justice could usually be relied upon to deliver a solid, if not always characterful performance - but I'm afraid this is pretty poor all round. The excavation of an Aztec pyramid reveals an idol of a jaguar (cat not car) which scares "Juanita" (Liliane Montevecchi) and running from the temple she picks up some blue pigment on her dress - well, that's her number up; and JRJ & her worried fiancée Steve Forrest have to break an ancient mystical spell that might just have corrupted her very soul! Yep, it's tosh - but quite good looking tosh - aside from seriously dodgy green-screen dancing. It isn't dubbed nor is the production done as cheaply as it could her been; it is just that the story is nonsense and most of the time the actors clearly want to be somewhere else - cooler, anyway.
