Trivia

The Legion of Decency did not like the movie because of what it considered the film's "pro-Communist" leanings. Instead of condemning the picture, though, it used a "separate classification" for it. That had previously been used on Blockade (1938) (a Spanish Civil War film that the League also thought was anti-Catholic and pro-Communist) and Martin Luther (1953) (because the film portrayed the life of the man who split Christianity, and also because the League thought it was full of inaccurate presentations of Church teachings). Alicia Hull: How about helping out an old friend?
Freddie Slater: Your not my friend!
Alicia Hull: Freddie.
Freddie Slater: You're not anybody's friend! They kicked you out! You don't belong here. They found out about you! You want to destroy us! Your like all the rest of them! They found out what you were doing! You don't belong here! Your not the librarian anymore. Your a communist! A communist! A communist! A communist!

Just a couple corrections to Huggo's synopsis.
4 June 2019 | by kilbridelSee all my reviews

#1: 'child's wing' should read 'children's wing', unless she is proposing the wing be used by only one child. #2: 'may make Alicia' should read 'might make Alicia'. 'May' indicates permission, whereas 'might' indicates possibility.
