Symphonie in Gold is known to be the last film watched by the mysteriously perished Dyatlov Hiking Group (Russia, 1959). 8 out of the 10 group members went to see the film just before they left Vizhay on January 25th 1959 to continue on their perilous skiing trip that resulted in the group's tragic and as yet unsolved death. The other two were left to do 'housework.' Group member Zoe Kolmogorova wrote in her diary on January 27th 1959,
"We went to see The Symphony in Gold again today. I could watch it again and again."
