Fathom Events Wants Indie Theaters to ‘Work Together’ With Big Chains to Promote Live Screenings

While the likes of Marvel and “Star Wars” have dominated the summer movie conversation, Fathom Events has quietly pushed forward with their plans to bring more event cinema to theaters this season, and that is leading to an interesting alliance in the movie theater industry.

Co-owned by the top three American theater chains — AMC, Cinemark, and Regal — Fathom Events hosted 26 different live events that grossed over $1 million each last year, among them being the boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor and a showing of “Disney’s Newsies: The Broadway Musical,” which led all events with $4.7 million.

It’s been slow-going for alternative content to become a factor in movie theater revenue, but Fathom Events is hoping that 2017 will be seen as the year that momentum for the medium started to ramp up. At CinemaCon in April,

‘Today’ Tops Royal Wedding Week Outright for First Viewer Win Since Winter Olympics

“Today” show viewers fell in love with all of that Royal Wedding coverage last week, when the morning news and talk series won the 7 a.m to 9 a.m. hours outright for the first time since NBC’s Winter Olympics from PyeongChang, South Korea.

While “Today” generally tops the key adults 25-54 news demographic, ABC’s “Good Morning America” (“Gma”) tends to draw the largest overall audience. That latter typical Nielsen ranking was not the case last week, however, we’re just learning this morning.

“Today” averaged 4.149 million total viewers from Monday, May 14 through Friday, May 18, just barely edging the “Gma” average of 4.147 million. Yeah, that’s close — the difference represents a mere 2,012 total viewers per day, to be exact.

James Corden Says He Nearly Sneezed In the Middle of the Royal Wedding (Video)

James Corden Says He Nearly Sneezed In the Middle of the Royal Wedding (Video)
“Late Late Show” host James Corden was among the many luminaries who attended last weekend’s Royal Wedding, though he nearly ruined it with an inopportune sneeze.

With the world watching the nuptials between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, including nearly 30 million in the U.S., Corden nearly sneezed when the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, asked the congregation if they knew of a reason why the couple should not lawfully marry.

“Please don’t sneeze, please don’t sneeze,” Corden said he kept telling himself. “I had to do one of those internal sneezes. I think I got away with it.”

Corden continued: “Imagine having such a beautiful ceremony, that the entire planet actually wants to watch your wedding video.”

After noting how exquisite the ceremony was, especially the flowers, Corden said they were the cause for the near-mishap.

Bill Maher Works Royal Wedding Diss Into ‘Real Time’

Bill Maher took a swipe at Saturday’s Royal Wedding in the UK that has overtaken the media spotlight the past few months– though clearly it has not interested the host of HBO’s Real Time. Maher used his opening monologue on tonight’s episode to skewer the idea of the event, taking down the Royal Family and all of England along with it. “And then there’s the Royal Wedding,” he said in opening his show, after remarks about Friday’s school shooting in Texas. “To say I am…

Ratings: NBC Falls to Fourth With ‘The Blacklist’ Season Finale, a Royal Wedding Special

Ratings: NBC Falls to Fourth With ‘The Blacklist’ Season Finale, a Royal Wedding Special
Well, at least it wasn’t “The Blacklist” series finale: The season-ending episode of the James Spader drama didn’t quite light things up for NBC at 8 p.m. — neither did a Royal Wedding special at 10.

As a result, NBC dropped from a second-place tie last Wednesday to fourth place this week among adults 18-49. With a lineup of all season (and some series) finales, ABC was able to leapfrog its competitor and claim the key demo’s bronze medal.

“Empire” handed Fox another gold among young(-ish, towards the upper end of that age range, at least) adults. CBS finished first in terms of total viewers.

Fox was first in ratings with a 1.4 rating/6 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic, but third in total viewers with an average of 4.5 million, according to preliminary numbers.

Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon revived their quirky TV host characters Cord Hosenbeck and Tish Cattigan on The Tonight Show Wednesday, serenading Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ahead of their royal nuptials.

The comedians are set to provide live coverage of the Royal Wedding, but as they told  Jimmy Fallon, they've also been working on a special song for the happy couple. It didn't take much for Fallon to convince Cord and Tish to perform the upbeat bluesy tune titled, "They're Gonna Make It Happen."

It's time to put on your Duggar detective caps! Although Josiah Duggar and Lauren Swanson got engaged in March, fans speculate their wedding may be right around the corner. A fan took to reddit to reveal a Duggar friend has been sharing details on social media, and honestly, we're convinced. "Duggar friend Krista, who's been in attendance at all the other weddings but is studying in NYC, mentioned on her Ig page that she'll be traveling back to Arkansas next week," they wrote. "Previously, when asked on social media when she will return to Ak, she said something along the lines of 'At this point, not until another wedding... my work/school schedule is just nuts right now,' then added the disclaimer that she was unaware of any weddings/engagements at the time (And this was only 17 weeks ago! How quickly the Duggar wheel turns)!" The redditor continued, "Josiah

The Royals Finale: William Moseley Breaks Down Biggest Cliffhangers, Looks Ahead to Potential Fifth Season
King Robert’s wedding day finally arrived on Sunday’s season finale of The Royals, presenting his family with the perfect opportunity to expose him in front of the entire world.

Unfortunately, the plan — which was for Willow to hijack the ceremony and announce that Robert caused the blackout — hit a slight snag when the bride decided not to blow up her fiancé’s spot, choosing instead to say her vows and become the new Queen of England.

And that wasn’t the hour’s only big surprise. In addition to Eleanor and Jasper kinda-sorta getting engaged, the Royal Wedding

Meghan Markle Totally Wears the Pants in Her Royal Relationship — Which Makes Us Love Them Even More

When it comes to Prince Harry's relationship with Meghan Markle, it seem she wears the pants! "She is definitely the one wearing the trousers in their relationship," a royal insider told People in a new interview. "She is a strong, opinionated woman who has her own ideas about things, and that’s one of the things he loves about her." Perhaps it's because she was a Hollywood actress before getting engaged to Harry. "Meghan was established before she met Harry," said the source. "That’s a first for the royal family. I don’t think Harry was ever going to marry a nice upper-class girl from the [English] counties — it’s just not him." But don't worry, the prince is not afraid to admit that his lady is in charge. Earlier this year, the duo visited urban radio station, Reprezent in Brixton, south London, where they chatted to dozens of DJs.

Good Evening, Mr. Ross

Steve Ross I Remember Him Well: The Songs of Alan Jay Lerner Birdland Jazz Club, NYC Monday, January 22, 2018

Lerner who?

Getting serious for a moment, this is the fact around which we will orbit: What really constitutes American culture? Literature and architecture and painting -- yes, certainly. But what particularly animates our hearts is song -- and, in particular, the living energy of the American musical theater. In that buoyant realm, there’s no greater literate master than lyricist and writer Alan Jay Lerner (1918-1986). The open-and-shut-case evidence for this assertion is his CV: On A Clear Day, Brigadoon, Gigi, Paint Your Wagon, An American In Paris (story and screen play), Camelot, and -- most famously, My Fair Lady.

Watching our black and white TV, as a child I noticed my parents (and the studio audience) were delighted by a singer I’d never heard of. I could not understand the big to-do about him.
