Max’s first full month without ‘HBO’ in its rebranded title has a selection that kicks off summer 2023 in fine fashion. Three of the four iterations of “A Star Is Born,” including the most recent remake starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, are streaming on Max in June. The 1954 and 1976 films land June 1, while the 2018 version arrives June 8.
To prepare for Margot Robbie’s performance in “Barbie” come July, one could watch one of her more intense roles as Tonya Harding in “I, Tonya” (2017). For some lighter summer watches, viewers might consider “Dolphin Tale” (2010), “Grease” (1978), “Hairspray” (2007) or “Tooth Fairy” (2010).
“Magic Mike’s Last Dance” (2023) starring Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek Pinault lands at Max after its theatrical release in February this year. Another major theatrical release from 2022, “Avatar: The Way of Water” (2022), swims onto the streamer starting June 7.

HBO Max is no more. In its place are…HBO and Max. Warner Bros. Discovery’s big change to its premier streaming service was simply to take the “HBO” off of the name “HBO Max,” leaving just “Max.” But in announcing its list of new releases for Max in June 2023, Warner is highlighting all of the HBO content anyway. So here is everything you can expect to find on Max (including every new HBO show) this month.

Time and time again during this year’s pandemic, movie studios have had to make the best of a bad situation. HBO Max’s list of new releases for December 2020 comes along with the most extreme example yet.
WarnerMedia undoubtedly had big plans for Wonder Woman 1984 when it scheduled it for a holiday release last year. After moving it to the summer, however, the conglomerate had to delay its theatrical release time and time again. Now HBO Max is the lucky winner of the saga, as it gets to premiere the long-awaited sequel on its servers on Dec. 25.
While Wonder Woman 1984 is definitely the headline this month, there are some other intriguing streaming options for HBO Max in December. The month plays host to a whole host of high-powered documentaries like Heaven’s Gate: The Cult of Cults (Dec. 3), Alabama Snake (Dec. 9), and the Tiger Woods documentary Tiger (Dec.

Here’s how E! Online reported her passing:
Hollywood has lost a beloved legend.

Doris Day, one of Hollywood’s most popular stars of the 1950s and ’60s who was Oscar-nommed for “Pillow Talk” and starred in her own TV show, has died. She was 97.
The Doris Day Animal Foundation confirmed the legendary actress-singer died on Monday at her Carmel Valley, Calif. home.
Though she was marketed as a wholesome girl-next-door type, the comedies for which she was most well-known were actually sexy and daring for their time, and her personal life was tumultuous, with four marriages and a notorious lawsuit.
The vivacious blonde, who also had a successful singing career, teamed with Rock Hudson in “Pillow Talk” and other lighthearted romantic comedies including “Lover Come Back” and “Send Me No Flowers.” Her other significant screen roles included Alfred Hitchcock thriller “The Man Who Knew Too Much” (1956), co-starring James Stewart and featuring Day’s Oscar-winning song “Que Sera Sera; and “The Pajama Game” (1957), based on the Broadway musical.

Anne Marie has been chronicling Judy Garland's career chronologically through musical numbers...
Sometimes, surprises happen. And sometimes those surprises are planted. I'm referring in this case to both the reappearance of Episode 9 on this series, and the "unplanned" appearance of Ethel Merman on the already-iconic show guest-starring Barbra Streisand. Though Merman's big reveal was first suggested as a way to placate both the surprise guest and her not-so-gracious host. Judy may have originally balked at the idea of her Tea for Two guest skipping the tea for some titanic trilling, but when the producers roped Barbra into the skit as well, it went from a battle of egos to a mammoth moment in musical history.

Singer, dancer and actor whose Hollywood career was overshadowed by her marriage to Errol Flynn
The gifted singer, dancer and actor Patrice Wymore, who has died aged 87, had the misfortune to be typecast in secondary roles at Warner Bros studios in the 1950s, and to be known as the third wife of the Hollywood star Errol Flynn.
The 23-year-old Wymore and the 41-year-old Flynn got married after co-starring in Rocky Mountain (1950), a minor western in which he played an army officer who rescues her from marauding Indians, though they had no love scenes together on screen. It was Wymore's second film, while Flynn was a veteran of more than three dozen movies. It was the beginning of her film career, while his was on the slide. Both were under contract to Warner Bros.
At the time, MGM musicals reigned supreme, though Warner Bros had Doris Day, a top box-office singing star.

Doris Day movies: TCM’s ‘Summer Under the Stars 2013′ lineup continues (photo: Doris Day in ‘Calamity Jane’ publicity shot) Doris Day, who turned 89 last April 3, is Turner Classic Movies’ 2013 “Summer Under the Stars” star on Friday, August 2. (Doris Day, by the way, still looks great. Check out "Doris Day Today.") Doris Day movies, of course, are frequently shown on TCM. Why? Well, TCM is owned by the megaconglomerate Time Warner, which also happens to own (among myriad other things) the Warner Bros. film library, which includes not only the Doris Day movies made at Warners from 1948 to 1955, but also Day’s MGM films as well (and the overwhelming majority of MGM releases up to 1986). My point: Don’t expect any Doris Day movie rarity on Friday — in fact, I don’t think such a thing exists. Doris Day is ‘Calamity Jane’ If you haven’t watched David Butler’s musical...

When the WWE travels across the pond, you are often not sure what you’re going to get. Between the jet lag of the performers and the grueling schedule of the whole caravan of events. It can really be a mixed bag at times. But at least in my opinion that was not the case for this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw.
Much like a few weeks ago, the crowd plays a large part in that. The enthusiastic crowd in the 02 Arena kept the energy up with certain chants, which unlike New Jersey a few weeks ago wasn’t as distracting and disrespectful in some aspects. As they were trying to be the whole show they were just trying to enhancing the experience they were having which is when a crowd should do.

In addition to Day's presence, what those movies have in common is the following: little plot, lots of music, and Old Hollywood's fluff-producing machinery at work. If that's your thing, don't miss them! Of those, the better one is probably Roy Del Ruth's On Moonlight Bay (1951, photo). Though nothing at all like Del Ruth's crackling Warner Bros. movies of the early '30s — e.g., The Maltese Falcon, Beauty and the Boss, Blessed Event — this musical comedy set in a small American town prior to World War I offers some genuine nostalgia, great songs, and charming performances, including those of the two good-looking leads, Day and Gordon MacRae. On Moonlight Bay was popular enough to merit a sequel,...

Leo Records' first batch of 2012 releases (some of which I already wrote about here) includes two featuring saxophonist/bass clarinetist Gebhard Ullmann, both featuring his bass clarinet work with special projects: his long-running group The Clarinet Trio with fellow clarinetists Jurgen Kupke (clarinet) and Michael Thieke (clarinet, alto clarinet), and another trio, BASSX3, wherein Ullmann teams with bassists Chris Dahlgren and Clayton Thomas. I not only immediately looked forward to reviewing both of them, as Mr. Ullmann is one of my favorite artists, I also relished these releases as an opportunity to look back on his earlier work on Leo Records, both with The Clarinet Trio and in other contexts. As before, dates in parentheses after album titles are recording dates, with release on Leo sub-labels also noted there.

I might be a gay man, but I’m still able to appreciate a good pair of legs on a woman. And by god if at 62 years old Jessica Lange still doesn’t have the sexy gams of a girl half her age.
She sat on stage following FX’s American Horror Story panel at the TCAs in a knee-length black dress, matching heels, and that familiar dazzling smile. Surrounding her, a small but eager group of TV journalists practically tripped over each other to get a word in edgewise. 90 percent of which, I might add, had nothing at all to do with the show she was there to promote.
Hey, it’s difficult to stay on topic when you’re dealing with a legend.
“I have a certain affinity [for] playing Southern women,” said Lange, who gives off a genteel if somewhat intimidating aura. “I mean, most of the characters...

"Glee" is taking a holiday break and will only return in February with the highly-anticipated Super Bowl episode. While preview is not immediately available, co-creator Ryan Murphy is willing to share a bit of what fans can expect upon the return in an interview with Rolling Stone.
First of all, Murphy would like to explain why "Glee" takes a long break while most of other shows return in January. "I always think it's good when the show goes off air and make people miss it a little bit," he said, adding that there will be two episodes airing in one week, one which follows the Super Bowl episode on Sunday, and another on the regular Tuesday slot.
Regarding what to expect overall, Murphy said, "I'm excited about our spring season because we're going back to the earlier Glee episodes. We really love all of our characters and the soap opera...

The New Directions are headed in new directions. With the meteoric success of Fox’s musical-comedy-drama series “Glee,” which picked up nineteen Emmy nominations and averages 12 million U.S. viewers an episode, the stars of the popular show are quickly lining up film projects to capitalize on their newfound fame.
Dianna Agron, who plays Quinn Fabray in the series, was the first to make the move. She played a supporting role in Burlesque alongside Christina Aguilera last month, and has a prominent, lead part in I Am Number Four, a sci-fi actioner produced by Michael Bay that has the potential to expand into a movie franchise if young audiences respond to it next February. Agron was even (briefly) rumored for Sony’s new Spider-Man in the barrage of 20-something actresses reportedly being “considered.”

Couric will appear in the upcoming post-Super Bowl episode of "Glee," which has had rumors surrounding the episode for months (it ultimately won't be a tribute episode). The news was revealed to Access Hollywood by Emmy Award-winning star Jane Lynch, who plays Sue Sylvester on the show.
"I haven't shot with her yet, but yeah, she's going to be in our Super Bowl episode," Lynch said to Access Hollywood. "She's also doing a dance with [Matthew Morrison]. She'll be doing 'Tea for Two.'"

Katie Couric will come out from behind her CBS news desk and throw on her dancing shoes for the post-Super Bowl episode of "Glee." The anchorwoman, who previously expressed disappointment about a GQ photo spread featuring the show's stars earlier this year, will perform a dance number to the tune of "Tea for Two," according to Jane Lynch.

Jeff has a girlfriend! Jeff has a girlfriend!
Somehow this taunt isn't as vicious when said girlfriend is incredibly attractive and cool enough to get turned on (38% more) by secret sex in her office.
Indeed, the main focus of "Interpretive Dance" was Jeff's burgeoning relationship with Professor Michelle Slater (Lauren Stamille). The newfound maturity and commitment Jeff displayed with her caused Britta's feelings for the man to finally rise to the surface.
Will this be a good thing or a bad thing? Jeff's heretofore rejected attempts to woo Britta have made for some of the funniest moments on the show. It's unclear if a role reversal will result in as many laughs.
It is clear, however, that we're happy Pierce is alive. The group's fear, at the episode's outset, that its oldest member had died made for the best lines of the night, led by Troy and Britta's shared final words to him: Suck it.

Quentin Tarantino's cult classic, Reservoir Dogs, with its cast of violent, sociopathic killers with names straight out of a Crayola box--Mr. Orange, Mr. Blue, Mr. Pink--was the inspiration for a 10-pack of rooms at the recently-opened Paradise Tower at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. Like skulls stenciled on your bedroom wall? Got that. A bed illuminated by blue neon? Check. Wall-sized images of topless women enjoying a post-coital smoke above the headboard? No problem.
"Everyone was so afraid we'd look like another Morgans Hotel property," says Hard Rock Cmo Phil Shalala. "But we kept our brand." Indeed.

Milk (Universal) Sean Penn deservedly captured his second Best Actor Oscar (and Dustin Lance Black a statuette for his original screenplay) in director Gus Van Sant’s portrait of San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to hold public office in the U.S. Alternately heartbreaking, infuriating and very funny, a film that both captures a bygone era and is still very timely. Fine support from Josh Brolin, Victor Garber, James Franco and Emile Hirsch. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Three featurettes. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS 5.1 surround.
Slumdog Millionaire (20th Century Fox) The Best Picture of 2008 is a kinetic, clever audience-pleaser about a determined lad (Dev Patel) from the slums of Mumbai, who has his chance at literal and financial redemption as a contestant on India’s version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Reclusive movie icon Doris Day is so keen to turn her back on her Hollywood past, she insists friends call her Clara and avoid all talk about her image as America's sweetheart.
Biographer David Kaufman has studied the enigmatic actress/singer for a new book, Doris Day: The Untold Story of The Girl Next Door and insists she wants nothing to do with Hollywood.
Now known for her animal activism, Day leads a quiet life in coastal Carmel, California and refused to speak to Kaufman, a respected film critic, for his tome.
So he turned to her friends for a glimpse of what Day has become.
He tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper, "She feels so completely disassociated from who Doris Day was.
"She signs her notes as Clara, she answers the phone as Clara."
Kaufman claims Clara is a nickname she was given by her Tea For Two co-star Billy DeWolfe. Day's birth name is Doris Mary Ann Von Kappelhoff.
