- To get the three needed business men to visit the Stevens mine, Roy stages a ride with the Vacaros and has them as honored guests. Seeing a chance to make a lot of money, gangster Harmon joins the ride and then has his men kidnap the three. - Whittaker City, New Mexico is a struggling town and the only method of rehabilitation its two leading citizens, Roy Rogers )Roy Rogers) and Mayor "Gabby" Whittaker (George "Gabby" Hayes can devise is obtain financial backing for an abandoned gold mine belonging to Carol Stevens (Linda Hayes). For this purpose they invite three prominent eastern financiers, Peter Moreland (Arthur Loft),Harold Prentriss (Sam Flint) and John McMahon Charles Miller), to Whittaker City to take part, as honored guests, to take part in the Annual ten-day Ride of the Vaqueros, the community's far-famed vigilante organization. On the opening day of the ride an uninvited stranger shows up. The latter is really Joe Kenman (Paul Fix), a notorious eastern gangster who plans to kidnap the three honored guest and hold them for ransom, but he introduces himself as Joseph Harmon,a wealthy manufacturer and obtains Roy's permission to join the ride. The first day's ride brings them to Carol's ranch for a planned over-night stay. Carol shows the financiers ore samples from her mine and the samples contain not only gold buy tungsten as well, and they promise to provide her with all the money she needs if the rest of the ore assays equally rich in the two minerals. The next day, Roy takes the trio to the mine while the Vaquero ride continues. Keenan persuades the Sons of the Pioneers, Roy's ranch hands, to stage a mock raid while he films the action for his camera, explaining he wishes to have the scenes to back East with him.As soon as the raid is staged. He then sends his henchmen in,and the three men and the Vaqueros are captured in separate raids. The, after binding Roy and his men an leaving them in the desert, he rides back to Whittaker City and informs the citizens that Roy has kidnapped everybody taking part in the ride and holding them for $250,000 ransom. The townsmen are convinced when he shows them the film of the mock raid. When Roy and his pals free themselves , they ride into town and are taken prisoners by an outraged sheriff's posse. Meanwhile, "Gabby" is delivering to ransom money to Keenan's lead henchman Louis (Jack Ingram), who has no intentions of allowing "Gabby" to remain alive after delivering the ransom.
