Storyline

The ChubbChubbs introduces the alien inhabitants of the Planet Glorf, including Meeper, its earnest but oh so awkward hero, a singing Diva, the Zyzaks, 20 foot-tall red-eyed bullies, and the ChubbChubbs. In this debut short, Meeper valiantly tries to warn the patrons of the Ale-E-Inn, an intergalactic watering hole with its own constellation of stars, of impending danger only to find himself face to face with the toughest creatures in the universe. Trivia

The credits say: "How Many Babies were born whilst making this movie? None". This is a little jab at the animation colleagues/competitors at Pixar and their habit of listing "Production babies" in their credits. See more »

Goofs

After Meeper gets thrown out of the inn for the second time, we can hear a distinctive sound of the door being locked. However, a minute later, when Meeper gets inside again through the roof, a messenger comes in opening the door from the outside without any problems. See more »

Quotes

[first lines]
Meeper: Excuse me. Coming through.

Crazy Credits

After the ending credits there is a sequence where Meeper performs his own version of R-E-S-P-E-C-T at the bar. The audience doesn't seem to react to him very positively until the chubbchubbs who are his backup singers show them their teeth. See more »

You'll never see alien invasions in the same light again!

I saw this as an added extra on the DVD Special Edition of Men In Black II. The movie was thoroughly forgettable, but The Chubbchubbs was worth the price of admission alone! Only about five minutes in length, but packs in quite a bit for such a comparatively short piece. It has the best bar scene since Star Wars (check out the "cameos"), unusual renditions of "Respect" and "Why Can't We Be Friends?" and some truly side-splitting one-liners! If Men In Black II had one-tenth the charm, wit and creativity of this little thing, it would have been worth watching. The Chubbchubbs was nominated for, and could well win, the Academy Award for Animated Short. That would suit me just fine. Highly recommended.
