- Following the Civil War, Jack Ridgely, an ex-Union Army captain, comes to Julesburg, with his sidekick "Fuzzy" Glass, to investigate the murder of his father, the manager of Cartwright's Stage & Freight Company. One there, he discovers that a land-selling scheme is being operated by local land agent Mason, who sells property to settlers and then has his henchmen run them out of the territory. Jack suspects that Slade, the man who replaced his father, may be the secret leader behind the gang. Jack and Ross Haddon organize a band of vigilantes to bring law-and-order to the territory and, at the same time, find the person guilty of his father's murder.—Les Adams <longhorn1939@suddenlink.net>
- After the Civil War, Jack returns home to Julesburg to investigate the murder of his father, the manager of the stage coach line. Cartwright, the owner of the line, has just appointed Slade, a man with a reputation for a quick temper and quicker trigger finger, as the new manager of the line. Slade has been blamed for much of the violence in town and consequently, when Bart Reynolds, who had been swindled by the land company, is killed by an unknown assailant, suspicion points to Slade. As the lawlessness escalates, Jack organizes a group of vigilantes to restore law and order. After Slade is finally arrested for the murder of Reynolds, Mason, the man who swindled Reynolds, breaks Slade out of jail to face the vigilantes before he can testify in court. Jack, becoming suspicious of Cartwright, tracks down Slade. Slade tells him that he was his father's partner, and that Cartwright, who is involved in Mason's crooked deals, killed his father. Slade concludes that after Jack's father was killed, he took the job as stage manager to prove Cartwright's guilt. Armed with this information, Jack sets a trap for Cartwright, telling him that he has captured Slade and will bring him to town through Indian Pass. Cartwright and Mason set up an ambush at the pass to eliminate Jack and Mason, but as Cartwright, who is riding with Jack, approaches the waiting gunmen, he breaks down and confesses all. To silence him, Mason shoots down Cartwright as Jack's vigilantes arrive to arrest the gunmen and restore law and order.
