Private detective Guy Johnson escapes on the way to prison with a new lead on proving his death-row client's innocence. Encountering poetess Edwina Corday, he has no option but to take her along as she sees him as a hardened desperado. This is a mixed blessing for him, but the complete ineptitude of the pursuing police is all good news.
When a tycoon is accused of murder, the private eye tracking him finds himself roped in as an accessory and attempts to evade police, kidnapping a poetess along the way.
