Curious Circus Drama
4 July 2009 | by See all my reviews

Nils Asther plays a clown who is also, wait for it,a surgeon. It is never fully explained why he gave up being a sawbones but obviously his talents come in useful during the course of the film. The initial circus sequence lasts nearly 10 minutes so the film takes rather a long time to get going.Given the paucity of the story it is little wonder that the circus scenes dominate throughout. It is the usual circus tale of jealousies and intrigue and death. However it has to be said that the climax of this film is rather an anti climax. This film is really only of interest to any remaining fans of the stars and those who still get some enjoyment out of seeing performing animals. One final note way down the cast list Tania is played by Jill Cragie,a well known writer director and producer and late wife of Michael Foot.
