Where East Is East (1929)
Toyo Haynes: [to Tiger] I have done such a terrible nice thing, Father. I have fall in love.
intertitle: Day after day Tiger watched Toyo's happiness grow... but it was always through eyes filled with fear.
Tiger Haynes: [to Toyo] Well, I don't like him! I'm not trusting your happiness to any young whipper-snapper like that!
Mme. de Sylva: You are unchanged, Tiger... except for some new scars.
Tiger Haynes: No, I haven't changed any... neither have you.
Tiger Haynes: That boy is goin' to marry my daughter!
Mme. de Sylva: Maybe so... perhaps.
Tiger Haynes: Your heathen tricks have broken enough men! You're going to leave this boy alone!
de Sylva's Maid: [to Tiger about Mme. de Sylva and Bobby] She's bad. White boy is like sheep with tiger. Take him away!
Mme. de Sylva: [Seductively to Bobby] My East will be your East until you love it. I promise.
Tiger Haynes: [to Bobby about Mme. de Sylva] I'd sooner see one of the tigers get you... than her.
Toyo Haynes: See Bobby! The sun kisses the great Buddha! It is time for wishing!
Tiger Haynes: Faithful Ming... you've kept Toyo as pretty as the poppies in the morning sun.
Bobby Bailey: This is all so colorful. This country certainly gets under my skin.
Mme. de Sylva: That is the way of the East.
intertitle: Drifting hours... pale moon shadows through Babul trees; Native song... weird, plaintive melodies. Fading stars... a perfumed breeze. From lotus, jasmin and Moghra trees. These nights of the East are strange and wayward things.
Party Guest: Toyo says her mother is beautiful like the lotus. We are excited to see her.
Toyo Haynes: I know! You are blushing because my mother kissed you!
