Thérèse Raquin (Gina Manès), an unhappily married woman , aided by her lover Laurent (Hans Adalbert Schlettow), drowns her husband Michaud (Charles Barrois) only to find the guilt of her sin is intolerable.

A copy of this now lost film was in the French Cinematheque but was taken to Germany during the Nazi occupation of France. It received its last known showings by German film clubs around 1945-6. The actor Gerard Philipe and his wife were sent in 1955 to Russia and in 1957 to China to look for another copy, in vain. See more
