Plot Summary

Tom Roberts, an ex-officer of the Tank Corps, has become a drifter. He finds work, however, at the Stoddard Machinery Co., after rescuing Alice Stoddard at a train crossing, and becomes reacquainted with Ptomaine, formerly a cook in Tom's regiment. While pursuing a courtship with Alice, Tom discovers that the tractors manufactured by the company are malfunctioning as a result of the plotting of the manager, Randall Lewis, thereby threatening Stoddard with bankruptcy. Tom's knowledge of tanks enables him to perfect the tractor, and during a flood that threatens the village dam, he and Ptomaine use the tractor to save the town from disaster; Tom wins the girl.
