Very nice review above.

However, it belongs to the original cartoon series "Priklyucheniya Kapitana Vrungelia" of 1976:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0219263/

This 1982 release is not a cartoon series, but a film for children, based on the same general storyline, with some unexpected twists, for example Lom is now a Georgian fellow with the stereotypical heavy Georgian accent; the third sailor is not the mysterious art smuggler, but a schoolboy from a local school, etc.

This film was not quite as popular as the original cartoon series. I left the Soviet Union in 1985 as a kid, and never seen this 1982 film, but all the kids were going wild about the 1976 cartoons! I watched it with my son who was born in the US, we had a blast.
