Just watched on the National Film Preservation Foundation site as linked from the Mark Evanier one this once-thought-lost live-action/cartoon short starring Mutt & Jeff. In it, these popular comic strip characters watch actual newsreel footage of their creator Bud Fisher and seeing how good a life he lives, call him up and demand more pay and a reduced work load. Since they won't get it, they'll work for themselves. It's at this point that we get an amusing scene of the way one draws and erases certain lines. Like when Jeff gets ink splattered on him so Mutt uses ink remover on him which erases Jeff out of existence! I'll stop there and just say how wonderful to see something that almost could have become extinct itself become available again. So on that note, On Strike is worth seeing for anyone interested in vintage early animation. It's on the site I mentioned at the beginning of this review.
