Storyline

The most acclaimed Star Trek adventure of all time with an important message. It is the 23rd century, and a mysterious alien probe is threatening Earth by evaporating the oceans and destroying the atmosphere. In their frantic attempt to save mankind, Admiral Kirk and his crew must time travel back to 1986 San Francisco where they find a world of punk, pizza and exact-change buses that are as alien to them as anything they have ever encountered in the far-off reaches of the galaxy. William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy return as Kirk and Spock, along with the entire Star Trek crew. Written by Robert Lynch <docrlynch@yahoo.com>

Trivia

Since the film was released in 1986, no one could anticipate the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. This is reflected early in the film when the probe arrives at Earth causing a world-wide power drain and one of the cities mentioned is "Leningrad", which had its name changed to its original name of "St. Petersburg" soon after 1991. Goofs

After Chekov's fall on the USS Enterprise, he is taken to a local hospital where he is guarded by local police. Being that he was arrested by Navy personnel and questioned by the CIA, he would have been in Federal custody and guarded by US Marshals, not local police. See more »

Alternate Versions

The film was originally released in 1986, which was the 75th Anniversary of Paramount Studios. Accordingly, the opening logo for the film originally had the 75th Anniversary sign on it, as did the original video release. All subsequent video releases (and at least some 35mm film prints) have included the regular Paramount logo. See more »

'Star Trek' can't get any better!
17 June 2001 | by jellyneckrSee all my reviews

This is without question the best STAR TREK movie in the series. It is full of great special effects, clever dialogue, sharp humor, and absolutely dazzling action sequences. It is the most fun to watch out of all the STAR TREK movies and is the most creative of them too. This is was easily one of the best movies of 1986.
