Storyline

The prospector had taught the Indian boy the doctrine of peace. When his tribe resisted the attack of another tribe the boy did not take part. The din of the battle, as the horsemen circled them again and again, the moans of men caught under falling horses struck terror in the boy's heart The incensed warriors cast him from the tribe with the brand of a coward. It was then that his opportunity came to follow the white man's wonderful doctrine. "Big love man lay down life for friend," Written by Moving Picture World synopsis

So characteristic of the direction of Mr. Griffith
9 September 2017 | by See all my reviews

There are battle scenes in these two reels that are unusual. In fact, the picture may best be described as a big Biograph. The theme is of a young Indian who meets white men and likes their ways. He is taught to smoke cigarettes. He is given a Bible. He is told that the ways of peace are the right ways. When war breaks out between his tribe and another he refuses to fight and is cast out. Later he smilingly sacrifices his life to save that of the lover of the woman he loved and lost. He puts into practice a precept he found in the Book: "Greater love than this." There are many dramatic situations, relieved at times by those lighter touches so characteristic of the direction of Mr. Griffith. Robert Herron plays the Yaqui cur, and plays it well. Victoria Forde, well known to Universal followers, has the role of the Indian girl who rejects him. There are many fine photographic effects. - The Moving Picture World, May 31, 1913
