In a fun connection to (space) flight, it was shot on the vast soundstages at Warner Bros Studios, Leavesden, in the UK, where the Harry Potter films were made, at the former Leavesden Aerodrome air field site which was originally used to test and manufacture aircraft by de Haviland, Hawker Siddeley, and Rolls-Royce. The Studios are literally the "size of aircraft hangars", hence the ability to build such vast interior sets for real. See more
