- The film depicts three days in the life of a state farm director, during which he celebrates his 40th birthday. He was adopted by four godfathers who have helped him throughout his life and have reached positions of prominence themselves. He makes a mistake at work turning away some foreigh investors and is required to cover the losses, but even his godfathers are unable to help him. He regains affection of his son instead.

- Ewa, the heroine of the film, tired from her everyday life in Paris, goes back to Poland in order to find her ex-husband Jacob. She finds out that Jacob, who withdrew from the world's life, lives together with his friend and spiritual father Nicholas in a reclusion. After Ewa's arrival, her new romance with Jacob begins, as well as the magical triangle among the three persons.
- A story of a crippled, ex-steelworker at the Nowa Huta plant near Cracow, now living in Szczecin. He returns to Nowa Huta to receive an award on the plant's 30th anniversary, but it turns out that his name is omitted on the recipients list. Meanwhile his son is fighting the eviction from the apartment belonging to his father and the family over the years.
- Two policemen on patrol discover a pair of robbers who have broken into a TV shop and have delayed robbing the store to watch a film being broadcast. The cops too are captivated by the film and their blunder allows the criminals to escape. Fired from the force, the policemen decide to form a street-performance troupe, just like the one they saw in the film.
- A young farm boy spends his days dreaming and making totem-pole like sculptures out of wood. His brother is a go-getter: studies agricultural engineering, comes back with diploma to marry the pretty girl next door. The dreamer graces puts his sculptures around, invoking anger of his father and ridicule of the peasants who find him useless. During the brother's wedding he sets his totems ablaze. He makes a pass at his new sister-in-law, but returns to his own reveries. In the end he hears a call to bring a log out of the marshes, but during the escapade sinks into the bog.
- A story of a female production manager in a garment factory discovering that an award is being given to the wrong person on purpose. She stands up the injustice. Her best friend backs her up instead of the cultprit, the man she is living with. Later, the former production manager becomes a mayor in a resort town, where she in turn practices malfasance and is caught in the act by her friend.

Everything returns to normal: his father has his habitaul visits to a brothel, his son to a cabaret and Madame Dulska safeguards her reign.

Yachtswoman Ewa (Krystyna Janda) is celebrating with her ex-husband and a new business partner, her pending solo tour around the world. Their party is filmed by a tv journalist, whose coverage of the race becomes the symbol of state censorship after the clamp-down. Ex-husband loses his job when he refuses to sign a loyalty oath. The business partner's boat club goes bankrupt. Ewa returns to the country pregnant with the ex-husband child.
- Set in 1939 tells a story of friendship among three 10-year olds, living in town of Sosnowiec: a Polish and Jewish boys and a German girl. The Jewish boy's parents are killed and he is wounded and left for dead, but saved by the other two. Polish boy sees his baby brother taken from his mother to be raised by an Aryan family, after Polish resistance members are found in his home and then shot in the street. The German girl leaves with her parents to live in Germany, after resisiting family pressure to associate only with German-bred companions.

- This unusual drama with a message, set in England and filmed entirely in English, concerns a wealthy British couple of Polish descent who adopt a son because they are unable to have children. However the illegal adoption process they go through involves paying an exorbitant fee to an underground broker, and the child they receive is not the Latin American infant promised, but a strangely hardened 10-year-old from Mozambique. Desperately disappointed with their "purchase," the new parents nonetheless make fumbling efforts to make the child Lazar feel at home. But Lazar is not receptive, and behaves more like a threatened and hunted animal each day in his affluent surroundings. In time, the couple are able to communicate with the boy to discover that he saw his family die and was forced to accompany the army, where along with other children he was trained to execute prisoners in mass killings. Lazar ultimately develops the will to try to become a child again, but he feels constantly endangered by the wealthy new world around him. One day he runs away, stealing a weapon from his favorite new grandfather. When police rounds up of him, it looks like the boy tries to defend himself.

But the difficulties of sorting himself out in the crooked boxing environment hold him back in the beginning, until he arrives for tournament in Chicago, where he can prove himself. In the end, he wins over his Yank opponent, an amateur below his ranking, and is back in the factory.

Then he is invited to an astronomical convention, He becomes the sensation of the conference, not however, as a amateur astronomer, but by guessing the clothing measurements of the delegates. Back home he realizes that his dream may be over, but he cannot help gazing at the sky.
- A spy thriller set in 1943 when the Polish Resistance was killing SS- officers and collaborators in Lublin and Zamosc. Polish hitman romances with "officer's lady" while he is setting up her boyfriend for his sentence of death. In the end, he loses out to a collaborator living next door.
- Berlin 1990: soon after the collapse of the wall, in the atmosphere of the approaching reunion of Germany. Invited by his friends-actors who have been living abroad for years now, Max, a Polish stage director, arrives in Berlin. Working together they try to carry out their dream: to stage a performance suspended by the martial law ten years earlier. The way they raise the money - moonlighting, selling pieces of the historical wall, coping with the soulless, inflexible machine of bureaucracy - constitutes the central, often humorous, plot of the film. In their efforts the four protagonists are allied by Regina, an interpreter familiar with the local habits and practices.

- The story is set in 1939. A military officer is stripped of his rank for his apparent collaboration with a counter-espionage agent while on a mission in Paris. Then he is enlisted in his own country's counterespionage unit, due to his knowledge of languages. He is assigned to Gdansk where he is trying to uncover mysterious "Wotan" in the German Secret Service. He eventually tracks down and kills the agent, but by doing so wipes out the possibility to clearing himself of the charges. Just as the death sentence is to be carried out on him the war breaks out and he escapes out of the bombed prison to join partisans.
- In 1969 a young writer decides to write an essay on a well known Polish writer, who had to leave the country in the 50's, later living, working and dying in exile. He slowly assembles the character and even the exterior appearances of his idol until his own identity tragically disappears.
- A small-time racketeer Stefek evades mob bosses by passing himself off as a mentally unstable cleptomaniac and laying low in an asylum. The racketeer and his closest devotee escape from the asylum and find work at the opera. Stefek becomes stage-doorman and soon discovers that the opera doubles as a brothel.

Meanwhile meastro's wife and the secretary are having an affair, his business manager disappears with the funds, and atop of all this he loses his voice.
- The four sequences in the film cover four days in the life of a young Warsaw lad in September 1938, 1939, 1943, and 1944. In the first sequence Jurek decides not to study at Sorbonne but enlists in a Polish military school instead. In the second sequence the war starts and Warsaw is occupied. In the third sequence he works in the underground resistance. The final sequence takes place during the Warsaw uprising.
- A biology professor, Adam, after several dizzy spells, enters a hospital for observation. He is a loner and a serious-minded man, who dislikes any display of emotions. He spends three months in the hospital while being tested. After observing patients and hospital routines around him from a distance, he learns that he will need a kidney transplant. Meanwhile his personal and professional life is falling apart: he refuses his wife's offer to donate the kidney for him; the scientific problem he was working on has been solved elsewhere. In the end Adam cracks under the prolonged pressure, waiting for the sound of an ambulance bringing a moribound patient whose kideny may be used for the transplant.

The man hits it and thinking that he hit a child - runs. Marek takes pictures of him and tries to blackmail him to use his car for a week. He wants to use the car to win back the nurse, who could not cope with his humors. When they are both in a car a child runs in front of it and makes him crash the car killing the nurse.
- Takes place on an ocean liner from Canada to Poland. It is a story of several people with pasts and problems stemming from uncomfortable confrontations. The main confrontation is between a Polish doctor with a heart condition meeting a man he knew before. Neither of them was willing to admit their differences from the college days. The meeting torments the doctor enough to start him drinking and dying of a heart attack.
- Realistic account of the 1981 events in Poland during the martial law. The plot takes place in a theater company and revolves around a mysterious briefcase, contents of which are never revealed. The set painter hands it over to the actor, who is then seized by the police. Submitted to the interrogation, he insists he knows nothing about it. He escapes from the police station and goes into hiding in an apartment occupied by a young girl with whom he falls in love. The actor is apprehended once again, jailed and to be released years later.
- Set at the end of the war. A hot-headed colonel tries to force his men on to heroics although the war is almost over. A war-weary lieutenant tries to muffle his efforts but he keeps on with his men and is killed fighting in the front lines, all his men decide to get his body.

The main character, Jacob Rosenberg, is a former industrial counselor, who is forced to work as a street cleaner. He knows what the fate is holding for him in the future, nevertheless he takes it with and implacable calmness.
- A look back at the life of an ordinary 60-year-old woman named Andzia. Although she has faced numerous difficulties, she has always tried to do her best for the sake of her two children.
- Set in 1905. The story focuses on a young and inexperienced man in a revolutionary execution squad. He does his killing job out of idealism, and for the love of a woman. The young student murders a Russian spy and is afterwards arrested by the police. Much to his surprise he is released after a session with the traitor-judge, hinting at some leaks in the organization. Student reports his suspicions back to the organization, but in response is given a new hit mission, aimed at a Polish writer believed to be collaborating with the Russians. The killer comes to Cracow where the writer lives and comes to a conclusion that perhaps the writer is innocent, since there is no conclusive evidence.
