The contract is returned, the married couple plan to go away on a trip - all is ending as it should...

Raskolnikow's sister is engaged with an arrogant official, who dislikes him, because Raskolnikow gave Sonja 25 Rubel for her father's funeral. When Raskolnikow tells him his opinion of his behaviour against the poor, he tries to show he's a good guy also to the public and showing that Sonja is also a thief at the same time by framing her of a theft of 100 Rubels. But after this, Raskolnikow finds out that Sonja was a very close friend of his second victim.

Roma becomes a well-known sculptor, backed by Baron Bonelli, who is secretly the head of the Rome branch of the Communist party. Returning from the war, David becomes a follower of Benito Mussolini. Complications ensue when David finds out that Roma is backed by Baron Bonelli, his arch-enemy.

Forced to flee, the prince leaves the girl in the care of Vassilly, a friend. Years later, during the Russian Civil War, the countryside is raided by Cossacks. Walter Stanford, an American soldier, saves Vera, now 18 years old, from being attacked by a Cossack chief. The Cossack forces Vera to marry him, then brutally beats her. The soldier returns, claims the girl, and marries her after the Cossack is accidentally buried alive.
- After he is told of the death of his wife, Dora, in a hotel fire, Dr. Howard Fleming goes to the country hoping to ease his sorrow. While visiting a farm, he falls in love with and marries Dolly Perkins, who--unbeknownst to Howard--is Dora's sister. Howard is later told that Dora is actually alive, though hopelessly insane. The king dies, and when the prince does not appear, the people begin to rise in revolution. Finally Otto hears the death knell for the king. In his hasty return to the palace, Otto is intercepted by revolutionaries and held captive until his friend Lieutenant Nikky rescues him. He arrives at the palace in time to restore order.

An anarchist jailed for an attempted assassination is told the Passion story by the prison chaplain, who seeks to convince him that it is better to sacrifice ones own life than take the life of ones enemy. The framing story, taken from a novel, is believed to have been intended to give the Biblical story an anti-Bolshevist propaganda function. In any case, it was added without the knowledge of the actors in the Passion story, who included some of the major stars of the period Asta Nielsen as Mary Magdalene, Henny Porten as Mary, Grigori Chmara as Jesus, and Werner Krauss as Pontius Pilate -bampfa.berkeley.edu
