- During the annual manoeuvres both Bigg City tug fleets service the Navy. But it's a dangerous job handling ammunition and potentially explosive barges. All is going smoothly until Bluenose, a bossy naval boat demands that O.J., the oldest of the Star tugs, gives him immediate priority with a barge-load of gasoline. The consequences put all the tugs in great danger.
- The Stars and the Z-stacks are both competing for a big steel contract. The fleet which can transport the most steel in one day, wins the contract. The canal is a short cut through Bigg City, but Big Mac of the Stars decides to go round the bay and let Zeb and Zac of the Z-stacks go through the canal. At first Warrior of the Stars is confused by Big Mac's idea for both of them to go round the bay, but the short cut through the canal wasn't necessarily the best route.
- Big Mac returns to the Star Dock one winter night claiming to have seen a fleet of ghostly white tugs drifting through the mist. At first, the Star Tugs refuse to believe Big Mac's claims, until an eventful night in the fog leaves them wondering if they are truly bordering on madness.
- Every winter the big liner Vienna would come to Bigg City Port to pick up supplies and re-fuel. This year however, the harbour was frozen over, so the tugs have to take supplies out as far as Lillie the Lightship, as this was as near as a big ship like Vienna could go to the harbour. Problems begin when Lillie the Lightship runs out of fuel and things just start getting worse when the Z-stacks show up.
- An old dirty tramper, the notorious Johnny Cuba, suspected of smuggling lurks outside the limits of Bigg City bay. He forces Zebedee, one of the Z-stacks, to tow him into the safety of the harbour. Normally, Zebedee would have been glad to help out an old friend but this time - things are different.
- Ten Cents and Sunshine discover an abandoned tug named Boomer floating astray in the estuary. He claims to be jinxed, and whilst Sunshine believes him, Ten Cents scoffs at this superstition. However after several unnatural incidents, Ten Cents starts to come round to Sunshine's way of thinking
- Lillie Lightship is sad. She never gets to see the regatta. In spite of Lillie's warnings, a temper sees her too late a d hits her, making a large hole in her side. The Start this rescue her and she is towed into the yard to be mended, from where she sees the exciting colourful regards parade. - Towing huge piles of logs was always a very dangerous operation. When the snows begin to melt and the river swells up there's added danger because the sudden rush of water could cause log jams that need to be carefully entangled. One day a particularly nasty log jam occurs and Big Mac needs Sunshine to help him clear it, but the little tug gets trapped.
- Due to increasingly warm weather in Bigg City, many foreign tramp steamers are put under quarantine, under the risk of them being diseased. Despite his engine troubles and fears of being scrapped, old O.J manages to sort things out when an old tramper causes confusion.
