- Edit program layout The Bar was one catering facility, located at Meent 106 in Rotterdam, containing two bars, separated by a glass wall. On each side a team of six people that had to run a bar without any catering experience. Which bar would become the most popular and have the highest turnover? The twelve bartenders also lived together under one roof. The Bar was all about entrepreneurship, creativity, entertainment and endurance. The program was characterized by a high degree of accessibility and interaction. The Bar was open to the public every evening and the work and achievements of a group of budding bartenders were reported via the internet and television. The twelve participants lived in one house and, divided over two teams of six, conducted a competition. In the end, after eleven weeks of hard work, only the best bartender remained who won EUR100,000. Cameras in the living areas and 'The Bar' reported the performances of the two teams and they could be followed 24 hours a day via the internet. The presentation was in the hands of the presenter Matthias Scholten. He hosted the weekly live show and reported daily activities and events. Disappointing ratings Edit The Bar could not live up to the high expectations of the makers. According to figures from the Kijk- en Luisteronderzoek, the program attracted an average of 240,000 viewers per day in the first few weeks. 50,000 of those watched the rerun. The first broadcast on April 22 was still watched by 380,000 people, after that that number has only decreased. In the month of May, that dropped to 150,000. After days of meetings, Yorin decides at the beginning of June to continue the program with some changes, despite these figures. In contrast to the disappointing viewing figures, the two bars themselves were initially a success and attracted an unprecedented number of visitors. The operator tried to maintain the concept after the program ended, but soon the visitors started to stay away. Apparently there is no fun without cameras.
