As the beaver grows, it learns to eat from a dish with its paws, cleaning and brushing itself thoroughly after each meal. Grey Owl does not want to domesticate the beaver, so when it meets a mate, he lets it go. There are several scenes of the two beavers in the water. Grey Owl slaps the surface with his paddle and his pet appears, climbs into the canoe for food. An excellent sequence shows beavers constructing a winter home. They drag branches from the stream and cut them with their sharp teeth. Finally, they bring mud up from the bottom of the stream to fill in the crevices and to seal it securely against all marauders.
