Review of Dhammu

Dhammu (2012)
6/10
a bit too morbid for a film with dated comedy scenes
2 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
We watched it with russian fandub, where they decided to fall asleep during one of the scenes.

It's a cool action dated comedy morbid drama modern musical film about some two feuding villages. There are a couple of weird plot points, but for what it is - it is more original than not. And then there's the ending... So back in the day south american soap operas became very popular, and there was a fad in bharat cinema for sudden plot twists revealing that someone was someone's relative ALL ALONG! Baharat movies were heavily imported into sssr so those dramatic revelations became a cultural soviets-wide stereotype meme associated with bharat films the same way as dances, songs, and action scenes in the style of 70s kung-fu (for last decades they are way more into wirework). Since i started watching more modern bharat films again after Enthiran i entirely forgot about that. But here we have a straight up that style of a reveal.

Nasser plays here basically the same type of villain as he later did in Bahubali.

The action cinematography is above average, those are pretty cool fights. But the NTR's introduction scene is using as much effects as in the memes.
