Ray: Tribute without Substance
27 June 2021
Anwar Says: A tribute in the birth centenary of the most prolific filmmaker and writer of Indian Cinema by remixing four short stories of the legend Satyajit Ray. I could only say that there may be a better way to tell the today's generation of Ray's work.

Three masterpiece directors were involved- Abhishek Chaubey, Srijit Mukherjee and Vasan Bala by Netflix creator Sayantan Mukherjee but Satayajit Ray's bengali flavour and strong women characters were missing. There is no harm in adapting the story in modern perspective but the original touch should have been kept intact.

Only the story Hangama hai Kyun Barpa casting Manoj Bajpayee and Gajraj Rao and Bahrupia casting Kay Kay Menon showed the Midas Touch of this great filmmaker to some extent, mainly because of the noteworthy performances of the artists. The other two Spotlight , starring Harshvardhan Kapur and Forget me Not starring Ali Fazal , were completely out of the original storyline and lack pace .

I loved that the motif mirrors, a must in all the creations of Mr. Ray have been beautifully used in all the stories . End is superb in Bajpayee starrer , wayward in Kapur's starrer and predictable in the remaining two. Two more actors are worth mentioning, Chandan Roy Sanyal as aide to Hashvardan Kapur and Dibendu Bhattacharya as Pir Baba .

3.5/5 star from me and watch one story every evening of this anthology in coming working week.
