Nice film, strange ending

"Heimat, Sex und andere Unzulänglichkeiten" tells the story of a young Hungarian couple that lives in Germany with its children and tries to adopt into the German lifestyle. When some friends from Hungary visit, the wife begins to question her motives for moving from there and notices how unlucky she has become.

Throughout most of the film, I found it to be a very intelligent portrait of a relationship in struggle. Some of the depictions might be a little bit over the top but all in all you can feel the desperation and it feels credible. Personally, I don't think that the element of sex is bad for the plot, rather it is a normal part of most romantic relationships and is thus rightfully shown. What I don't like so much is the ending. It is pretty much like they wrestle each other down and everything is fine again and even if this is supposed to show that they finally begin to live according to their feelings and let them out, I can't imagine that their problems all of a sudden disappear from that.

All in all this film was far better than I expected it to be, even if some might find it a bit too unexciting. I like the quiet and thoughtful approach, I just wished for an according ending.
