Review of Pink

Pink (III) (2016)
9/10
A tale that almost every woman lives through
20 September 2016
Pink is based on a story that can be picked up from any bylane of our so called 'modern existence. A story of three women, one of who dared to say NO at an event. Unsuccessfully though, as the basic psyche of the feudal males abounding in India is to get a Yes from a woman, whatever her answer maybe. AB defends these women in a courtroom, whose minutes stretch almost the length of the second half.

I won't go into details of the film review. Just a couple of points. The film has very few loose ends. A brief justification for a gas mask could have been given. The promo had made me believe AB was in the midst of a chemical war. The ailing wife is a typical digression of the Bengali directors. Chopping it off could have done it much good. Not much insight into AB's character is given.

All the girls are spectacular. Special mention for Kirti Kulhari who looks stunning and acts like a dream. Some frames felt like Taapsee was trying to act frail. Her personality is too strong at most places which somehow does not match with the fumbling bits given to her in the courtroom. If she was broken, the breaking in was not revealed.

I am not qualified to review Big B's performance. Age seems to gild on layers after layers of perfection to this star who towers over all other actors and actresses in the current generation. Some people say method acting, but the effortlessness of Big B is that no method is found in any of the roles he essays. The characters become him.

Watch the end credits. The event that started it all, the lust that is seen all too commonly in most of the men's eyes who feel a woman is a piece of meat to be enjoyed is shown in bits and pieces. And the recitation by AB rises and soars above the entire length of the movie into a lions roar and sets fire to the screen.

Thank God for AB. Indian cinema would have been at least 40 years behind if not for him. A must watch. Another glowering tribute to a great man our present generation is extremely lucky to have seen.
