Spencer Tracy is arguably the greatest actor of all time, but this movie was directed all wrong for him. The "monster" make-up detracts from, instead of adds to, the horror. Tracy would have done a much better job scaring us if he had been able to just use his amazing acting skills. I think he felt uncomfortable in the make-up; hence, the performance is well below his high standards. Ingrid Bergman is the best part of this movie; she really does a great job as the poor abused woman. Not a horrible movie altogether, but it could have been so much better.
