Resumos

  • A family of small-town criminals is shaken when their father is sentenced to a surprisingly long prison term, leaving mom to take care of the criminally enterprising brood. In an effort to keep her kids out of trouble, she decides it's time for the family to go straight, despite their best efforts to maintain the status quo.—ABC Publicity

Sinopse

  • A husband and wife are just getting busy when police knock on their door to execute a search warrant. They're looking for their son Cal, who's not in his bed. The sergeant (Carlos Bernard) knows them as a family of cons and testified against the dad. He asks about Logan, Cal's identical twin, who apparently has nothing to do with the family business and is a lawyer.

As the cops are searching, they find a portfolio of boudoir shots of the teenage daughter Heather (Leven Rambin). Mom Cheryl (Virginia Madsen) isn't happy about it and tears up the business card of the photographer, Rene.

Dad Wolf (David James Elliot) gets ready for his court sentencing. He's expecting to be out in four months. He says good-bye to his family and heads to court while Cheryl goes to deal with Wolf's dad, whose trailer is apparently burning down.

At court, Logan greets his dad. He's being admitted to the bar that day.

Back at home, Cheryl drops off grandpa as her criminal son Cal (Patrick John Flueger) drives home sporting a big shiner. He claims not to know anything about a home invasion robbery of an Asian man that the police were asking about. As Cheryl drives off we see a black limo follow her. The license plate says "The Hongs."

Cheryl gets to court late, everybody looks really grim. Cal tells her Wolf got five years.

Cheryl chews out their lawyer, also their cousin, for not knowing the judge was up for re-election and trying to appear tough on repeat offenders.

Heather calls her mom, saying that grandpa, who has Alzheimer's, thinks she's his wife.

Cheryl goes to her other daughter Hope's school to pick her up and learns that she hasn't been in school for months, claiming she has lupus. Cheryl asks the attractive young vice-principal if she has any explanation. She doesn't. But she remembers Logan.

Flash back to them doing it in a classroom.

Cheryl finds Hope at the video store. She's working on her screenplay, with big plans to be a filmmaker. Mom asks how she got away with it for so long.

Flash to young Hope snapping picture through the window of the vice-principal and her brother going at it on a desk, then presenting the pictures to the vice-principal and mentioning that Logan was 17 at the time.

Back at home, Cheryl finds Cal is gone again.

Cut to Cal fencing the stuff he stole last night, including a small dragon figurine, to a guy named Charlie.

Flash to the night before, a middle-aged Asian woman surprising Cal and his accomplice mid-robbery and going kung fu on him, giving him the shiner.

At the family store, Cheryl is joined by Charlie, who does the books. She asks him if he happened to get any Asian artifacts in recently. He says no.

Just then a hot young Asian woman comes in and says she's Patty Hong. She tells Cheryl that Cal robbed her dad and put her grandmother in the hospital. He left a black ski mask with his name tag sown into it.

She just wants the dragon statue back. She says it's a priceless family heirloom.

Back home, Heather tries to get the $1,500 she needs to get the rest of her head shots from the photographer from her sister Hope.

Cheryl finds Cal and tells him to get the dragon ornament back, reminding him of their two family rules: no robbing people's homes (while the people are home, anyway), and no violence.

Cal goes to visit his dad, who knows about the Asian job. He mentions the figurine and thinks that because it's Chinese it might have heroin inside it. Wolf tells him if he sees an opportunity, he should follow it up. And his mom's going to need money.

Heather visits the photographer to get her pictures. When she doesn't have enough money he puts the moves on her. When she shuts him down he offers her a drink and spikes it. She kisses him as a thank you and he puts down the champagne glasses. Then she reaches for one and chugs it. She stands up but quickly passes out on the nearby bed. He takes off his shirt and goes to join, but passes out on top of her. She gets up, clearly faking.

Cal gets the ornament back from Charlie and takes a crowbar to it, but there's nothing inside.

Cheryl goes home and finds the house empty, but a note about Hope lending Heather money. She finds the photographer's card.

At the studio, Heather has the slimy photographer stripped and tied down to the bed. Holding a staple gun to his crotch, she asks where the rest of her photos are. She gets the pics. Mom arrives and hustles her out of there, not seeing the man tied up in the other room. She takes the photos from Heather.

Back home she asks Cal if he got the statue. He tells her he broke it because he thought there might be something inside. He tells her his dad told him to look after the family. She's upset to learn he thought there might be drugs inside and wants to get into dealing them.

Cheryl visits Wolf in prison. He accuses her of not giving Cal enough credit. He says they're both just trying to look after her and you can't succeed in their business without taking risks. He says she's not strong enough for the crime side of the business, not like he and Cal are. He tells her to stay out of it.

Outside in the car, she breaks down crying. She calms down and calls Charlie.

At the store, she asks him if he cleared out the accounts like she asked. She takes the money and leaves him the pawn shop.

She takes the bag of money to the Hong house.

When Cheryl gets home she finds the kids on the couch and grandpa watching TV. She tells them about Wolf saying "you go where the money is, or you get out." She says look where it's gotten us. Starting today, they're getting out of the family business. She informs Heather that she'll be working at a fast food restaurant, tells Hope she'll be going back to school and Cal will be working for the Hongs to work off what he owes.

They go to Logan's ceremony and then back to the house for a party. Sgt. Mack drops by, saying the Hongs changed their story. She tells him they're turning over a new leaf. He's dubious.

Back in prison, Wolf cracks up when Cal tells him the news.
