Poll: Favorite Movie Heroine of 2024
How, and to what extent, women and girls are portrayed in cinema reflects how they are seen in the world but it is likely that their representation in film also impacts how they are seen in the world. Therefore, women and girls' roles in film is of vital importance. Women and girls continue to be underrepresented in movies: for example, they still get only about one-third of speaking roles. There is reason to celebrate, however: the trend in the past ten years has been towards more female leads in Hollywood movies. In 2022, for example, 44% of co-leading roles in top grossing films went to women and girls, still not reaching parity but an all time high. Let's support films with women and girls in prominent roles so the movie industry moves towards equality, with the world perhaps following. We can start by celebrating these female protagonists: which of these heroines from 2024 is your favorite?
