Nine actors of color earned Academy Award nominations on Monday, setting an Oscar record for diversity in those categories. 2021 marks the first time two actors of Asian heritage are nominated for best actor, with Minari star Steven Yeun and Sound of Metal star Riz Ahmed both receiving nods in the category. This is also the first time three Black actors were nominated in one year in the Best Supporting category with Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfied getting nods for Judas and the Black Messiah and Leslie Odom Jr. for One Night in Miami.
